Cats Continue Fall Slate at Schooner Fall Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team continues its five-event fall schedule with the Schooner Fall Classic, Friday through Sunday, at the par-70, 6,182-yard Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.

This is the fourth-straight season the Wildcats will compete in the event with a highwater mark of a sixth-place finish in a rain-shortened 36-hole tournament in 2024. Three of the Wildcats' top-11 team rounds in program history and two of their top-11 54-hole scores have come on this par-70 track.

"We are really looking forward to returning to the Schooner," head coach Stew Burke said. "This is one of the most fun events we play all year. It really puts things into perspective as the tournament is really secondary to the opportunity to visit the OK Kids Korral – part of the Toby Keith Foundation – as we try to bring joy to the families affected by childhood cancer."

K-State is one of 16 teams in the field, as the Wildcats are joined in Norman by Arkansas State, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, Houston, Iowa State, host-school Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, TCU, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF and Virginia Tech.

"This is a stacked field where we will see many of our Big 12 foes and continue to compete against some of the best teams in the nation," Burke said. "We had a quick turnaround since our last event as we have tried to get a couple of things right, and we also made a small lineup change. I know the ladies are looking forward to getting back to competing and improving on our last performance."

K-State's lineup at the Schooner Fall Classic consists of two juniors, a sophomore and two freshmen in Nanami Nakashima, Kelsey Chen, Steele Fields, Amy Wang and Mia Ingham, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Keen Visavapattamawan will compete as an individual.

Nakashima led the Wildcats in their first event, the Annika Intercollegiate, by carding a 2-over par 218 to tie for 22nd place. The Kani, Japan, native enters the weekend with the second-best career scoring average in program history at 73.21.

Chen, a native of Dalian, China, is looking to rebound following a tie for 55th place at 20-over par 236 to open the season. Fields, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, is making a second-straight appearance in the scoring lineup and will look to improve off her 52nd-place finish in the Annika Intercollegiate at 16-over par 232.

Wang, a freshman from Guangzhou City, China, finished her first collegiate tournament in 44th place at 11-over par 227. She will be joined by another freshman in Ingham, who is making her first start as a Wildcat. The Surrey, England, native came to K-State after ranking No. 45 in the U18 European Golf Rankings at the time of her signing. She was also on the winning team of the English Women's County finals, while she earned top-five finishes in the Rock Golf League European Championship (third) and England Girls Open (fourth).

Visavapattamawan, who hails from Bangkok, Thailand, is making her first start of the year after putting together a 74.41 scoring average over 34 rounds last season.
