Rowing Facilities

Intercollegiate Rowing Center

Opened in the Fall of 2013, the new Intercollegiate Rowing Center serves as the on-campus home to the Kansas State rowing team.

The 9,000 square-foot facility, constructed in K-State limestone, is located along Kimball Avenue and adjacent to the east parking lot at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The facility provides an all-inclusive and efficient training facility for the Wildcat rowing program.

The IRC includes two state-of-the-art indoor rowing tanks, a locker room, an athletic training area, an erg room with more than 50 rowing performance machines and office space for the coaching staff. The crown jewel of the facility are two 2,800-gallon indoor rowing tanks that allow for up to 16 rowers to practice at one time and simulate "being on the water" year round.

The project was designed by Schaefer-Johnson-Cox-Frey Architecture and Konrath Construction served as general contractor. The facility came in at a total cost of approximately $2.7 million, which was funded privately through contributions and athletics department revenue without the aid of tax, tuition or general university dollars.

Breidenthal Boathouse

Located less than 10 minutes from the Kansas State campus, the Breidenthal Boathouse provides a beautiful and convenient home for K-State Rowing.

Sitting above Elk’s Cove on the Tuttle Creek Reservoir, the existing boathouse was erected in 1968. The 80’ x 60’ boathouse has two concrete bays lined with racks for the various shells used for training and racing. The boathouse has space for over 20 eights and fours, as well as additional space for several smaller boats.

Although the K-State Women's Rowing team has ample facilities for the fleet, the boathouse was not ideal for the student-athletes themselves. Through the Boathouse Campaign, including a generous lead gift from George Breidenthal, in honor of whom the Teamhouse is named, the program raised the funds for a new $1.3 million team facility. Groundbreaking for the building occurred in Spring 2003 and the Teamhouse opened in Fall 2005.

The building includes a team locker room, shower and bathroom facilities, a large team meeting area, an on-site training room, coaching offices and a "Catbacker" food and beverage area.

Combined with the existing boathouse, the facilities total more than 10,000 square feet of space dedicated to K-State Women’s Rowing.
