FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin
On the team's attacking performance after a record tying performance for shots on goal…
"I think our attack right now is really dynamic. There's a lot of different people that are playing a really big role, and so that is making it really hard for teams to defend and for people to account for the different types of players that we have in our attack. So it's just been really fun how dynamic it is. That was something that we took out of the Omaha game was that we felt like we were getting into really dangerous areas, but weren't necessarily generating real chances. And so the fact that we're now creating a bajillion chances and also scoring goals is really exciting."
On coming back from a long road trip and winning in the first home game…
"It's a hard road trip. I know everyone thinks Hawaii and thinks paradise, and, oh man, how lucky are they? Which is true. It is a beautiful, magical, wonderful place, but the travel is brutal. The time change is brutal, and getting in a competitive mentality when you are in paradise is really challenging. So coming out of that weekend and performing the way that the team did, and then turning around again, the travel is the same on the way back, right? It's brutal, and having to readjust and find a way to still get your edge back and be ready to defend your home turf. Really proud of the way the team responded and the maturity that they showed in being able to manage that."
FROM THE FIELD
K-State Senior Forward Rilyn Rintoul
On moving up the K-State career offensive lists…
"I think it's really special to even be in the conversation and to be through the evolution of K-State soccer and like what we are striving for. And we had the conversation earlier this season to be up with the best teams in the conference, you need to be up there in points with them. So that's kind of what we're striving for. We've scored a lot more goals in the past three games than we have earlier in the beginning of the season. So it's a collective effort. It's special to have my name in the conversation, but a lot of it comes from the team and the goals we're all chasing."
On what has been working offensively for her…
"We've put a lot of collection into our offense in all of our practices so far. Last season, we focused a lot on our press and the defensive side of things. So now we've kind of focused more on offense and the final third. So I think it's just clicking for the whole team with the runs and just being more dynamic in the final third, and it's working out."
K-State Senior Midfielder McKinnan Braswell
On what this hot start to the season means moving forward…
"This past summer has been a lot of focusing on the offense. Last season was a lot of figuring out our press and our team mentality to go win the ball up high. But, we're getting into the rhythm of we know how to play, we know how to score different types of goals, and so it's just been committing to the offense and just being on the end of shots, being ready to follow up, and I know it's been really awesome."
On what it means coming back from a road trip and winning at home…
"That's something we've also really harped on this preseason. We don't want to lose at home. Being here at home, we're here to defend our house and show out for our fans. And I think that's what we did today. So it was fun."
