FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin
On how the win today felt…
"It felt awesome. I'm just really happy for the kids, I think, to get rewarded for the work that they've been doing. They've been relentless in the pursuit of continuing to grow and get better and be transparent and look in the mirror and figure out like we needed to be better. And so it's just exciting to see us really start to put the pieces together at this time down the stretch in conference play and really feel like things are coming together at the right time."
On how it felt to see Jayce Woodward's goal…
"I mean, Jayce [Woodward] can hit laser beams, man, we see it in training all the time. And so I actually had an individual meeting with her this week, and I told her it's coming on Thursday, because she almost got one the other day bounced off the post, and so we could just feel it. And so for her to again, take that one and put the team on her back, first five minutes of the second half, it changes the momentum of the game completely. And I think again, coming out of the first half and being a little disappointed with how we let them get into the game, it was a really great way to start the half. So super proud of her, super happy for her. She's an incredible player, and just excited to see her getting back into stride and hitting her form."
On limiting Cincinnati's offensive chances…
"I don't think [Maddie Sibbing] made a save tonight, which is great. That might be the first time all year, I'm not sure. But I think what we really emphasized at halftime was so much of our identity comes out of our press, so much of our identity comes out of keeping the ball in our attacking third, and so we just felt like we were pretty complacent and pretty passive in the first half, addressing the ball in our final third, not counter pressing to win the ball back. And so even to come out of it at halftime, and again, still not feel great about it, even though it was 0-0, I think again, it's a testament to the team taking pride in those things. And we did it well in the second half. It was really, really challenging for them to get out of their own half, and definitely to get into their final third. I'm just happy for the kids that they're getting rewarded for the work that they're doing and the belief that they've put into our identity."
On setting the school record for the most wins in a season…
"I think we've talked about the process, right? When you focus on the end result, things can get really disappointing really fast. And so we've been a very process-oriented program since January, and good things happen when you really believe in what you're doing and you work hard for the things that you want, and you're willing to go through adversity, and again, you're willing to have hard conversations with yourself about where you need to grow. I think the team's done a really good job of that. And also, they don't make any opponent bigger than they are. And so just taking it game by game, these are the kind of things that happen. I'm just happy for them, proud of our staff, I think we've done a really good job, keeping things in focus and again, being able to scout teams without over scouting and sticking true to who we are and what we do."
FROM THE FIELD
K-State Senior Midfielder Jayce Woodward
On how getting her goal felt…
"I don't exactly remember what came before, but I remember the ball popping out, and I saw some space, so I took a touch, and I knew I was going to hit it as hard as I could, and then it hit the post. I was a little worried that it wasn't going in, but then when I saw it hit the back of the net, it was the best feeling ever."
On the confidence she has in herself…
"A lot recently. I feel like we are working on finishing a lot. We're not allowed to call it shooting, because we don't try to shoot. We finish, or score, and I feel like I've just worked really hard on being composed and placing my shots instead of just hitting it to hit it. So, I felt confident."
On how it felt to come back after injury and make an impact on the team…
"It feels really good. I feel like I've spent the last couple of weeks or, I guess, almost a year, or over a year now, just wanting to get back on the field. So it feels nice being able to get one into the back of the net."
K-State Senior Midfielder Paige Dickson
On how the win today felt…
"I'm just incredibly proud of this team. I mean, coming off a win on our last game, we just keep trying to stack things, stack moments, and stack everything we're doing and to see another result tonight. Just awesome."
On the message at halftime that led to the dominant second half…
"I think we still felt like we were in it from the first half. Obviously, we didn't get a goal in the first half, so we put it behind us and came out in the second half. And it showed, and we dominated."
On the pride she takes in shutting out opponents …
"I think that's a big thing. We definitely take pride in our back line, and at the six, I'm a part of that, and so just continuing to try to get shutouts every game is a priority for us."
