K-State Upset Bid Stymied at Fifth-Ranked Texas Tech

Oct 26, 2025 | Soccer

LUBBOCK, Texas – K-State looked for its first top-5 win on Sunday and put itself in position with a second half goal from Allison Marshall, but a pair of late second half goals by fifth-ranked Texas Tech ended the upset bid at John Walker Soccer Complex, as the Red Raiders secured a 3-1 decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 55th minute, K-State (7-6-4, 2-5-3 Big 12) squared the match at 1-1. Sophomore defender Emerson DeLuca played a left-footed cross from the left side of the field and into the 18-yard box. Sophomore forward Allison Marshall broke free from her defender and redirected the ball with her head into the frame from eight yards out.

- Texas Tech (13-2-2, 7-1-2 Big 12) went back on top, 2-1, in the 68th minute, as Taylor Zdrojewski registered her second goal of the afternoon and her 15th of the season. She gathered a tight pass inside the 18-yard box and attempted a low shot from eight yards.
- Texas Tech's Macy Blackburn added an insurance tally in the 72nd minute, as she floated a ball from the right side of the field that nestled just inside the left post.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin

On the team's play in the opening half…
"Today it felt like we came out a little hesitant, especially defensively, and not on the front foot. We weren't able to keep control of the ball as much as we would have liked and that resulted in us having to run and chase to win the ball back. I think the team was much more intentional about asserting themselves in the second half."

On the two second half Texas Tech goals…
"The two players who scored for Tech in the second half are both very talented and made special plays. Unfortunately, we also collectively, missed some defensive rotations, starting from the front, and left those players isolated in dangerous areas. It felt like we had gained some momentum after we scored and we were playing to win the game, so it was unfortunate to give up those goals and make our climb to come back into the match that much more challenging."

On school record for goals in a season…
"Allison's (Marshall) goal was a great one and I'm so glad that the team came out pushing the tempo to start the second half. The group's collective ability to show offensive prowess and confidence and score goals this season has been really fun to watch and I'm excited that this team has leaned into raising the standard for years to come."

On ending its road schedule with a .500 record for the first time in program history…
"Overall, our team performed incredibly well on the road this season and I look forward to us continuing to grow our 'road warrior' mentality. There are always so many factors that are constantly outside of our control and as a team we will always take pride in showing up as the best version of ourselves, no matter the circumstances. We never wavered in our playing style or mentality, regardless of location, and I am really proud of that."
