FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin
On winning the match through the midfield…Â
"We knew winning the midfield battle was going to be a huge key to our success tonight, and I thought the team did a great job competing and finding a way to manage the ebbs and flows the match presented. Our grit and intentionality to fight and dig out second balls definitely led to a lot of our offensive opportunities and stifled a lot of their momentum as well."
Â
On Rilyn Rintoul's two-goal night…Â
"Rilyn came out flying tonight and it was so fun to watch. She has continued to be dangerous and cause problems all season, so I am really happy for her that she was able to see the ball hit the back of the night tonight twice."
Â
On the goal from Lailah Benz to open the second half…Â
"Lailah's goal was huge. We wanted to come out of halftime competing like it was 0-0 and her scoring that goal to start the half was massive to elevate our confidence and energy. She has grown so much this season and I am really proud of how she has stepped into her role on our team. Also, we have been really intentional about wanting to be more dangerous on set pieces, so it was great to have so much success in that area tonight."
Â
On what she hopes the returners take from a win like this into the offseason…Â
"This was a challenging season filled with some awesome highs but also some very real adversity. The team always had a choice – to continue to show up and compete, or to throw in the towel and feel sorry for themselves – and tonight was a tangible showing of the team's continued belief and love for one another. There will always be challenges but how we continue to show up and compete will always be a choice. I couldn't be more proud of the performance that was put on display tonight, I know that it will carry us all into the offseason more hungry than ever."
Â
On if this is proof of concept for the team over the last two seasons…Â
"Weare really proud of the buy-in and belief from the team over these past two seasons. We have seen tremendous growth in so many areas and the records are just one small, tangible piece of evidence we have to show for it. There is so much to be proud of and still so much left to grow in and strive for. I am really grateful to the entire team and the work they put in this year. We are looking forward to what's next as we head into the offseason."
