FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin
On playing in front of the K-State fans all season…Â
"Buser is a really special place. It's one of the best facilities, not just in the Big 12 but in the country. And the way that our fans come out and support our kids is pretty special. And it's one of the things about being in a community in a college town like Manhattan, where people care deeply about all the student athletes, including women's soccer, and that's a pretty special place to be, especially in today's day and age. So, I just really appreciated people's loyalty as this team has fought really hard to try and earn results. Obviously a lot of the games didn't go the way we would have liked, but it really felt like the community continued to believe in these girls and what the work that they're doing and how they continue to grow and improve. So, I'm just really grateful to always be here and play for such an awesome community."
Â
On the lightning delay…Â
"It didn't really affect us at all, I didn't think. I thought our team came out really, really well out of the lightning delay. Our team has played in some adverse conditions, not just this season, but even coming back into the spring and last year. And we always talk about weather being one of those things that we don't get to control, and we still have to show up and compete and try to find ways to win. So I thought the group responded incredibly well. Obviously, lightning delays are something that we hadn't seen this year yet, and we showed up with grace and kept the energy high. And that's all you can ask for. So really proud of that."
Â
On the motivation for K-State in a game where they're able to play spoiler to UCF's season…Â
"We try to make it more about us than about them, right? For us, we want to have a winning mentality no matter what, and regardless of the circumstance or situation, we want to walk onto the field every single day and battle to walk away with three points. Ideally, me as a coach or us as a staff don't have to do a whole lot to get them to feel good about that, and I think that's one of the areas of growth for this team that we've seen over the last couple years is really being competitive and wanting to find ways to earn results and to beat whoever is on the other side of the field. So, again, really proud. Obviously, we all had a choice on how we wanted to show up and approach these next two matches, and I really loved our team's fight tonight."
Â
FROM THE FIELD
K-State Junior Forward Allison Marshall
Opening statement…Â
"I would just say obviously frustrated. I think we're all glad that we got a result, but just knowing we left something on the table, we know we could have won that game. So just a little bit of frustration, definitely leaving with a tie."
Â
On what she saw on her goal…Â
"I saw Lauren (Moylan) winding up to serve it, and her serves have been great all year. She takes some of our corners too, so just knowing that I need to get to the back post and just like putting my body into it, and then contesting with the defenders around me, I knew we had to score. So yeah, just doing whatever it took to get on the end of that ball."
Â
On her growth this season…Â
"I think just being an upperclassman this year, growing as a leader, whether that be on or off the field, pushing my teammates around me just to be better in all areas. I feel like we've had so many ups and downs this season, and just trying to be a consistent leader and vocal and lead by example."
Â
On the weather delay…Â
"We kind of knew that there was a chance of a delay, so we didn't let that affect us when we went in. We're listening to music and still talking about what we can do better to come out and play the last 30 minutes and win the game. So I think Colleen prepares us very well. If we always practice in the rain, whether it's rain or anything, we're prepared in that aspect too."
