CAREER:
One of the fastest players on the team who turned out to be one of the
best kickoff-return men in school history... Tied the school’s career
record for kickoff-return touchdowns (4), while he ranks second in
school history in career average (30.8), third in yards (1,572) and
sixth in attempts (51)... Also tied the Big 12 record for career
kickoff-return touchdowns... Played in 48 career games with 24 starts at
cornerback... Helped K-State accumulate a 34-18 record, a Big 12
Championship in 2012 and four-straight bowl berths.

The top kickoff-return man in the country who went on to earn multiple
All-America accolades – including first-team honors from USA TODAY Sports,
CBS Sports and FOX Sports – in addition to being named the Big 12
Special Teams Player of the Year, marking the third-straight season a
Wildcat won the award... It was just the second time in league history
one school had the offensive, defensive or special teams player of the
year in three-consecutive seasons... Named the Big 12 Special Teams
Player of the Week over the final four weeks of the season, setting a
league record for consecutive honors... Broke the school record for
single-season kickoff-returns yards (1,138), a mark that ranks third in
Big 12 history... Tied the school and Big 12 records for kickoff-return
touchdowns (4), while he finished second in K-State history in total
returns (34) and third in average (33.5)... Led the nation in
kickoff-return touchdowns, while he ranked third nationally and first in
the Big 12 in kickoff-return average... Also ranked 13th nationally in
punt-return touchdowns after recovering a blocked punt for a score at
Kansas... Had two 100-yard kickoff returns, the first player in school
history and first Big 12 player since 2011 to accomplish the feat...
First 100-yard score came on the season-opening kickoff against South
Dakota, which is believed to be the first occurrence in school
history... It was also the first by a Wildcat to open any game since
2006, while it extended K-State’s nation-leading streak with at least
one kickoff-return score to 11 years... Had return touchdowns in
consecutive games – at Texas Tech and against Iowa State – the first
Wildcat since Tyler Lockett in 2011 to accomplish the feat... Broke
school record with 221 kickoff-return yards at Texas Tech, the most by a
Big 12 player since 2011 and third-most nationally during the season...
His seven returns at Texas Tech ranks second in school history... Also
had 201 return yards on three attempts against West Virginia, the
highest average (67.0) and second-most total yards in a game in school
history, while it was the eighth-most nationally during the season...
Also had 91 return yards in the 2016 AutoZone Liberty Bowl against
Arkansas, the third-most in K-State’s bowl history.
Started 12
games at cornerback, recording 38 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and 11
passes defended... Ranked seventh in the Big 12 in passes defended...
Recorded an interception at Kansas, a game in which he also forced a
fumble on a punt and recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown... Came
back with another blocked punt in the regular-season finale against West
Virginia... Voted a team captain for the 2015 season.

12 games, finishing sixth on the squad with 55 tackles, tying for
second on the team with three interceptions and tallying seven pass
breakups... Two of his interceptions came against Texas Tech to tie for
the most in the Big 12 during the season and the seventh most in a game
in school history... Carded a career-high eight tackles the next game at
No. 11 Oklahoma and intercepted his third pass of the year in the end
zone to halt a potential Sooner scoring drive... Had four games with six
tackles, including against Kansas when he carded his first-career
sack... Also excelled in the return game by averaging 30.7 yards on 12
kickoff returns, ranking third in the Big 12 in average... Returned a
kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown against Oklahoma State, pushing
K-State’s kickoff-return touchdown streak to a national best 10-straight
seasons... Also totaled 105 kickoff-return yards on three attempts
against Stephen F. Austin, while he had a 65-yard return against Kansas.

time in 12 games, leading the team with 10 special teams tackles...
Also made one defensive stop to give him 11 total tackles... Had two
tackles against Miami, West Virginia and Texas Tech, while he carded one
in five other games.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped
at Trinity Academy under head coach Tyler Ryan... A three-time
all-league pick at both defensive back and running back... A two-time
all-metro selection... Rushed for 2,700 yards and 36 touchdowns over his
final two seasons... Also a state champion in track at 100m, 200m and
400m and a member of the state-champion basketball squad.

Scott Burns was born May 19, 1993, in Overland Park, Kansas... Son of
Brad and Greta Burns... Has three siblings, Chandler, Tyler and
Ashley... Tyler signed with K-State in 2015... Majoring in
communications studies.
