CAREER: A four-year letterwinner who originally came to K-State as a walk-on... Played in 48 career games with five starts... Helped 2017 Senior Class earn a 32-20 record, four bowl berths and two bowl victories.

2017: Saw time in nine games – primarily on special teams – but earned a start at safety against Oklahoma in which he totaled a season-high eight tackles.

2016: Saw action in all 13 games and totaled eight tackles, six of which came on kickoff coverage... Recorded a season-high three tackles against Florida Atlantic and two more at West Virginia.

2015: Played in all 13 games, including starts at safety against Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech and in the 2016 AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Arkansas... Totaled 52 tackles, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble... Had 37 tackles over a four-game stretch against Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech (9.3 per gm) after entering the Oklahoma contest with 16 total stops in his previous 18 career games (0.9 per gm)... Set a career high with 14 tackles against Oklahoma, which featured his first-career TFL... Also had nine tackles against Baylor and eight at Texas Tech... Forced his first career fumble against Arkansas.

2014: Appeared in all 13 games and recorded six tackles, including five on kickoff coverage... Set a career high with three tackles against UTEP... Also had one stop against Stephen F. Austin, Kansas and Baylor.

2013: Redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner at Phillipsburg High under head coach J.B. Covington... Named an honorable mention all-state performer as a junior and senior by VarsityKansas.com and the Topeka Capital-Journal... An all-league selection at quarterback, defensive back and punter... Also lettered three years in basketball and track and field... Earned consecutive Kansas 3A State Championships in the 110-meter hurdles... Also won the Kansas 3A crown in the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the discus in 2012.

PERSONAL: Sean Austin Thomas Newlan was born December 20, 1994, in Norton, Kansas... Son of George and Sue Newlan... Has three sisters, Beth, Emily and Hannah... Obtained a degree in social sciences from Kansas State in May 2017.
