The girl’s program at Newport Harbor also had successful runs, winning back-to-back league championships in 2021 and 2022, while making the CIF State Tournament in three consecutive seasons. In 2021, the girls squad finished as Southern California Regional Finalists.

Mabry, who has also spent the past 14 years as a high school history teacher, led Orange Lutheran’s girls’ volleyball team to the school’s first CIF Championship in 2017. With Orange Lutheran, Mabry coached CIF Player of the Year Courtney Buzzerio, who went on to earn All-Big Ten honors at Iowa and was a AVCA First Team All-American at Pitt.  He also coached Audrey and Nicole Nourse, who each went on to win four NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships with USC.

Mabry graduated from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he was named to the Chargers’ Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.  He continued his playing career at Irvine Valley College and helped the team win the 2008 CCCAA State Championship.
