
Wildcats End Fall Campaign on High Note

The Kansas State men's golf team finished off its fall slate on Sunday by shaving nine strokes off its second-round score during the final 18 holes of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate held at the Grandover Resort.
The Wildcats, who tied for the second-best team round on Sunday at 2-over par 290, finished the event in eighth place with a 54-hole score of 35-over par 899.
"It was a solid round for us today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We have shown flashes this fall of what we are capable of, but for us to be a good team, we have to be much more consistent."
Ben Fernandez had a successful final round, collecting three birdies during a 2-under par 70 showing. He climbed 14 spots on the final day to tie for 14th at 6-over par 222. Junior Roland Massimino also made improvements with 1-over par 73 round, jumping 11 spots to finish in a tie for 28th at 11-over par 227.
Jeremy Gandon equaled Massimino's 1-over par score on Sunday thanks to two birdies on the front nine. He advanced 10 spots to a tie for 41st after recording a three-round total of 14-over par 230. Sophomore Jacob Eklund also tied for 41st to close out his fall slate.
Senior Trent Evans carded a 15-over par 231 for the tournament to tie for 46th, while Kyle Vance, who competed as an individual, finished 73rd at 32-over par 248.
"We have a lot of work to do in the offseason, and I am confident we will be a much better team in the spring," Robbins said.
Northwestern stole the lead on Sunday and won the event at 9-over par 873. Dylan Wu of Northwestern maintained first place on the individual leaderboard, shooting 7-under par 209.
The Wildcats will start their spring action February 24-25, at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida.
