No. 36 K-State Outpaced by No. 34 Wichita State

Cats fall to 9-3 this season on the road
WICHITA, Kan. – K-State women's tennis salvaged one win on Court 4 in singles play but fell to the No. 36-ranked Wichita State Shockers, 4-1, at Genesis Health Club on Friday.
K-State (14-6) finishes its longest road trip of the season with a 3-2 record. The Cats road mark drops to 9-3 overall this season. K-State's record vs. its in-state rival drops to 23-25 overall in team history.
Wichita State (16-6) won its eighth match in its last 11, defeating back-to-back ranked opponents for the first time this season.
After capitalizing on singles play last weekend with a 7-0 record, the Cats went 1-3 in singles and 0-2 in doubles against the Shockers. K-State is now 5-6 in singles play and 1-3 in doubles play vs. WSU this season.
The Cats fall to 63-38 (.624) this season on singles courts this spring.
After taking the doubles point, Wichita State took a 2-0 lead as Margot Decker lost the opening match of singles play for K-State to No. 56-ranked Fatima Bizhukova, 1-6, 1-6. In the fall season, Decker had defeated Bizhukova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The freshman drops to 8-9 from the top position in K-State's singles lineup.
Holding down the No. 4 slot, Rosanna Maffei swept Marta Belluco of WSU, 6-0, 6-0, to narrow the deficit to 2-1. The freshman improves to 15-9 this season, with 11 wins coming in spring play.
At No. 3 singles, Carolina Costamagna was outlasted by the Shockers' Guilia Guidetti, 0-6, 3-6, moving the match to 3-1. The four-year senior falls to 17-13 overall this season overall with a 1-3 record vs. opponents from Wichita State.
The Shockers completed their 4-1 win over K-State as Anna Turco fell to Gabriela Porubin, 5-7, 4-6. The freshman falls to 8-4 this spring.
Maria Linares and Ines Mesquita were in the second sets of each of their matches before WSU completed the victory. After dropping her opening set, Linares was surmounting a comeback vs. the Shockers' Sandra Honigova, 2-6, 5-4. Mesquita opened her match with an early lead over Wichita State's, 6-2, 2-3.
The Cats dropped both of their doubles matches en route to Wichita State claiming the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. K-State tandems have posted a 48-33 record in all competition this season, including a 27-23 mark in the dual match season.
