K-State’s Road Winning Streak Snapped at (23/23) Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Kansas State entered the 2019 Big 12/SEC Challenge with a five-game road winning streak, but (23/23) Arkansas defended Bud Walton Arena on Saturday afternoon with a 81-72 win. Saturday was K-State's first true road game against a non-conference opponent in the regular season since November 23, 2015, at (1/1) Connecticut.

K-State (4-4) had three players in double figures and were led by senior Peyton Williams with a double-double of 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 13 rebounds. This was the 26th career double-double of her career and ranks tied for fourth in school history with Tammie Romstad (1978-82; 26). With her 13 rebounds, Williams improved to 12th on the K-State career rebound list with 749.

Senior Angela Harris carded a personal season-high 16 points and added five rebounds. Redshirt freshman Ayoka Lee ended the day with her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Arkansas (8-1) was led by Chelsea Dungee with a game-high 32 points. She was aided by Alexis Tolefree with 21 points.

Arkansas dashed out to a quick start with an 11-4 lead to force a K-State timeout with 6:49 to play in the first quarter. The Wildcats locked down the Razorbacks for the final 6:48 of the quarter, as K-State ended the frame on a 10-5 run and trail 16-14. Ayoka Lee scored the final four points of the quarter, as the Wildcats would score all 14 points in the paint.

The Razorbacks were led in the second quarter by Chelsea Dungee, who tallied 12 points in the first five minutes to give Arkansas a 30-19 lead with 4:59 remaining. K-State answered with a pair of 3-pointers from Angela Harris to pull within six, 33-27, with 3:10 to play.

K-State again closed out a quarter strong, as the Wildcats outscored the Razorbacks 6-2 in the final 2:16 of the quarter to pull within four at the half, 37-33. Harris and Peyton Williams each hit a pair of free throws, while Laura Macke finished an offensive rebound with a putback.

K-State secured its first lead since the 9:37 mark of the first quarter, as Williams finished a layup in transition to give the Wildcats a 42-41 lead with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter. Arkansas would score five straight go in front 50-44 and force a K-State timeout with 4:38 to play.

The Wildcats closed to within six, 56-50, following a fast break layup from Harris. Arkansas would hit a pair of field goals to end the quarter up 11, 61-50.

Arkansas increased its lead to 14, 72-58, with 6:16 to play in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats were able to cut into the deficit and pull within eight on a pair of occasions before the Razorbacks sealed the game from the free throw line.

K-State finished the afternoon shooting 41.4 percent (29-of-70) and held the edge on the boards, 48-29. Arkansas shot 41.0 percent (25-of-61) including a 40.7 percent (11-of-27) performance from beyond the arc.

K-State will have a week to prepare for its next game. The Wildcats will continue its three-game road trip at Kansas City in Municipal Auditorium on Saturday, December 14, at 1 p.m. Saturday's game will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network, on the K-State Sports Network and for free at kstatesports.com.
