K-State Rowing to Compete at Hornet Invitational in Sacramento

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's rowing team will compete in their first official regatta of the spring racing season, as the Wildcats compete in the Hornet Invitational on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California on March 16-17.

The Hornet Invitational, comprised of hosts Sacramento State, K-State, San Diego State and Saint Mary's, will feature five K-State boats competing throughout the two-day regatta. This year marks the second-consecutive season the Wildcats have competed at the Hornet Invitational, as K-State battled to eight first-place finishes last season.

"This weekend should be a good change of pace for us," Head Coach Patrick Sweeney said. "We have the opportunity to race and compete against some teams who have been on the water more than us this season. I think it will be good to see how well we compete."

The racing begins on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT, as the Wildcats will have five boats on the water, including the 1v8+, 2v8+, 3v8+, 1v4+ and 2v4+. All five K-State boats will see action in the morning session as K-State faces off against Saint Mary's, followed by racing in the afternoon, beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT, where K-State takes on Sacramento State.

On Sunday, all five K-State boats will return to action against San Diego State, as the teams square off beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT. For a full event schedule, click here.

The Hornet Invitational marks the first official regatta of the spring season for the Wildcats, after scrimmaging against the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on March 2. From Sacramento, the Wildcats will travel to Sarasota, Florida for the Sunshine State Invitational on April 5-6.
