K-State Makes Use of Valuable Water Time in Scrimmage with Oklahoma

Mar 02, 2019 | Rowing

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Kansas State women's rowing team had their first on-water action of the spring season on Saturday, as the Wildcats found valuable training time in their scrimmage with the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday.

"We had good training runs with Oklahoma. The athletes learned a lot and us coaches got a lot of information," Head Coach Patrick Sweeney said on Saturday. "We are looking forward to getting on the water again in California to continue the progress."

The scrimmage consisted of two-training sessions on Saturday, where the Wildcats were able to get their first time on the water since January during their winter camp in Austin, Texas. The on-water training sessions allowed for the K-State coaches to see how their training through the winter has progressed.

"We were able to make changes to try some things out, so it was a productive session," Sweeney added. "The scrimmage showed the team is in good physical shape and we just need to get the team in the right seating positions, which will come from being on the water."

Saturday also served as an opportunity for the K-State freshman to compete for the first time this season. Down the line, K-State will look to continue to improve technique while also experimenting with different seating assignments, which will come with more experience on the water.

Following Saturday, the Wildcats will return to Manhattan, before embarking on a nine-day spring camp in California, where K-State will compete at the Hornet Invitational in Sacremento, California on March 16-17. The Hornet Invitational marks the first regatta of the season for the Wildcats, as they prepare for the Big 12 Championship on May 19.
