K-State to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships this Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams will send five individuals – Aaron Booth, Shardia Lawrence, Brett Neelly, Tejaswin Shankar and Lauren Taubert to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will stream live on ESPN3 on Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Live results can be accessed throughout the weekend by clicking here.
The NCAA Indoor Championships marks the final meet of the indoor season for K-State and the first time competing at the Birmingham Crossplex since the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, where the K-State women placed eighth.
Of the Wildcats competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships, all five rank in the top-15 of their respective event. Shankar enters the Championships with the top-ranked mark for the Wildcats.
At the Big 12 Indoor Championships, Shankar tied a personal best 2.28m/7-05.75 to win the high jump title, while tying his Indian National Record. The jump also moved Shankar up to second in the NCAA, behind only Alabama's Shelby McEwen (2.31m/7-07).
Also claiming a Big 12 title, Lawrence enters her second NCAA Indoor Championship after winning the Big 12 triple jump on February 23, jumping 13.23m/43-05. Earlier this season, Lawrence jumped the No. 4 mark in the NCAA of 13.58m/44-06.75 at the Razorback Invitational.
In his first indoor season with the Wildcats, Booth enters the NCAA Indoor Championships with the No. 5 mark in the NCAA in the men's heptathlon, scoring 5,819 points at the Razorback Invitational in January. Booth's total ranks second all-time in K-State Indoor history, just three points shy of Mantas Silkauskas' school record of 5,822 points.
In December, Neelly broke a 37-year old school record in the men's shot put by throwing 20.15m/66-01.50 to break Ray Bradley's record set back in 1981. Neelly also became the first Wildcat to ever break 20 meters in the men's shot put, which he did on two occasions this season, earning him the No. 6 mark in the NCAA entering this weekend.
In the women's pentathlon, Taubert enters her first NCAA Indoor Championship, after scoring a personal best 4,100 points at the Big 12 Indoor Championship, which placed her second overall. Taubert also extends a nine-year streak of K-State sending a pentathlete to the NCAA Indoor Championships, which is tied for the longest in the country. Taubert enters this weekend's championships ranked 15th overall.
