Cats Open Big 12 Championship Thursday

MANHATTAN, Kan.?– The K-State women's tennis team will travel to Lawrence on Thursday for the Big 12 Championship, where it will meet West Virginia in the opening round at 10 a.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (12-10, 2-7 Big 12) enter the tournament having won two of their last three matches following a 7-0 defeat to No. 20 Kansas to close the regular season. The Cats, who come in as the No. 7 seed, swept West Virginia 7-0 back on April 5.
The 10th-seeded Mountaineers (10-11, 0-9 Big 12) have lost four matches in a row since meeting the Wildcats. K-State is 10-0 all-time against West Virginia.
K-State is led by freshman Karine-Marion Job and sophomore Anna Turco who both own a team-best 13-7 singles mark. Turco, who has won five of her last six matches, is 5-4 in Big 12 play while freshman Ioana Gheorghita is 5-3.
In doubles, sophomore Margot Decker and Turco come into the tournament with a 9-10 spring record playing at the top spot in the order. The Cats have clinched the doubles point in three of their last four matches.
Ines Mesquita and Job own a 9-6 record when paired together at the No. 2 spot and sophomore Maria Linares and Gheorghita are 6-3 from the third position.
Anne-Sophie Courteau and Anastasia Bovolskaia lead WVU in singles with overall records of 12-7 and 11-8, respectively. Courteau and her doubles partner Abigail Rosiello have the team's best record of 6-3.
The winner of Thursday's match will advance to take on No. 2 seed Oklahoma State on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
