MANHATTAN, Kansas – Following her first win, K-State freshman goalkeeper Alaina Werremeyer has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.

Werremeyer is the second Wildcat to earn the honor, joining Brookelynn Entz from the 2017 season.

The product of Blue Springs, Missouri, pocketed the first shutout of her career with a 3-0 win over Oklahoma on Friday. Werremeyer is the first freshman goalkeeper in program history to register a win and the first freshman to record a shutout.

Werremeyer registered four saves on 11 total shots to secure the win. She was tested in the first half with a save on an Oklahoma shot from just five yards to keep K-State in front by a goal. She then notched three saves in the second half to seal the win.

K-State will play a pair of matches next weekend. The Wildcats return to the state of Texas to face Baylor on Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m. K-State then will host (6) TCU on Sunday, October 25, at 12 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and available on 101.5 KROCK in Manhattan and for free at kstatesports.com.
