MANHATTAN, Kansas – For her play in K-State's 3-0 win over Oklahoma last Friday, sophomore defender Silke Bonnen was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
Bonnen, who played the full 90 minutes, took three of K-State's four corner kicks, including the game-winning service on the third minute goal by Shae Turner.
In the 65th minute, Bonnen played a free kick off the hand of an Oklahoma defender in the penalty area to win the Wildcats a penalty kick which was converted for K-State's 3-0 lead.
Bonnen also anchored K-State's backline to its first shutout of the season and the first home Big 12 shutout in program history. Bonnen helped K-State hold Oklahoma to 11 total shots and just four on goal. She helped force Oklahoma into eight shot attempts from beyond the 18-yard box.
K-State will play a pair of matches next weekend. The Wildcats return to the state of Texas to face Baylor on Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m. K-State then will host (6) TCU on Sunday, October 25, at 12 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and available on 101.5 KROCK in Manhattan and for free at kstatesports.com.
