No. 10 K-State Falls in Three in Season Finale at No. 3 Baylor

WACO, Texas – In the regular-season finale of the fall season, the No. 10 K-State Wildcats fell in three sets (18-25, 23-25, 13-25) to third-ranked Baylor Saturday at Ferrell Center.
K-State (10-6, 10-6 Big 12) finishes the fall season in third place in the Big 12 standings, its highest conference finish since the 2008 season. Baylor (13-3, 13-3 Big 12) earned a second-place finish after winning the league a season ago.
Saturday, redshirt junior Brynn Carlson led the Wildcats with 10 kills while freshman Kadye Fernholz added five. The BU attack turned in 42 kills with a .352 team efficiency while the Cats recorded a season-low 29 kills at a.133 pace.
Preseason conference player of the year Yossiana Pressley had a match-high 16 kills while hitting .353 to pace the Bears. Lauren Harrison logged 10 kills at a .474 clip.
Defensively for K-State, Mackenzie Morris registered a match-high 11 digs to lead the Cats for the 16th straight match. Abigail Archibong tallied three block assists.
Carlson picked up four kills on just seven swings without an error in the first set, as the Cats hit .206 to Baylor's .306. The Bears got six kills from Pressley at a .385 clip. As the score sat 9-9, a four-point BU scoring run handed the Bears a lead they would not relinquish. Baylor finished the frame on a 6-2 spurt.
The Cats fended off five consecutive Baylor set-point opportunities in the second set. Earlier in the set, K-State held a 10-6 edge before the Bears rattled off seven unanswered points as part of an 11-2 scoring run. Pressley recorded seven kills in set two, helping BU hit .270. Carlson and Fernholz each had three kills for the Wildcats.
In leading throughout the third set, Baylor owned a 13-5 advantage in total kills and limited K-State to a .000 team efficiency. The Bears' offense clicked at a .611 clip as four players registered at least three kills. Harrison tallied four kills on four attacks. Carlson accounted for three of the Wildcats' five kills.
Baylor's hitting efficiency on the day marked the second-highest total allowed by the Wildcats this season, while K-State's hitting percentage marked its second-lowest number of the year.
K-State suffered back-to-back losses for just the second time this season.
The NCAA earlier announced that spring competition will begin January 22 with postseason selections being made on April 4. The NCAA Tournament will field 48 teams, rather than the traditional 64, with 32 automatic qualifiers. The Final Four is scheduled for April 23-25 in Omaha, Nebraska.
