MANHATTAN, Kan. – Nine Kansas State football seniors during the 2019 season were named members of the 2020 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF announced Wednesday.
The nine Wildcats to earn the honor were Kyle Ball, Scott Frantz, Blaise Gammon, James Gilbert, Adam Holtorf, Nick Kaltmayer, Tyler Mitchell, Jordan Mittie and Dalton Schoen. It was the most K-State players to be honored since the award's inception in 2007, while they were part of an impressive 1,432 players from all NCAA divisions and the NAIA to pick up the accolade this year.
The Hampshire Honor Society, which began in 2007, recognizes college football players from all divisions who maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. This year's K-State honorees marks the sixth-straight year K-State had at least four players named to the list.
Eight of the nine honorees were First Team Academic All-Big 12 performers during their final campaign in Manhattan as Gilbert was not eligible being a transfer student-athlete. Holtorf finished his career by being named an Academic All-American three-straight years, including the final two earning a first-team designation to become the first Wildcat to do so since Jon McGraw in 2000 and 2001. As a senior, he was named an NFF National Scholar Athlete and Campbell Trophy Finalist in addition to being named the Big 12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
