K-State Downed on the Road at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Oklahoma – K-State pieced together an early advantage, but Oklahoma State used a late second quarter run to distance themselves from the Wildcats for a 59-46 win on Wednesday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
K-State (6-13, 1-11 Big 12) held an early three-point lead, but were held without a field goal for the final 7:09 of the first quarter, as Oklahoma State used a 12-2 run to end the frame and lead 15-8. Ayoka Lee was the only Wildcat to make a field goal in the first 10 minutes, as K-State was 3-of-11 from the field and forced into six turnovers.
Lee ended the day with a game-high 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting, seven rebounds and two blocks. This was her fifth time with 20 or more points in the last six games including an active career-best stretch of four straight games.
Oklahoma State (16-6, 12-4 Big 12) used a 12-3 run to end the second quarter and build a 35-22 lead at the half. The Cowgirls were paced by Natasha Mack with eight of the 12 points during the run. Mack ended the first half with 16 points and eight rebounds.
In the third quarter, the Cowgirls used a 9-0 run to build an 18-point advantage, 45-27, with 3:18 remaining. Ja'Mee Asberry tallied five points, while Mack added four during the run. K-State went without a field goal for three minutes during the run.
The Cowgirls would build a 20-point advantage, but Lee finished an old-fashioned three-point play and Cymone Goodrich added a pull-up jumper to bring K-State to within 16, 52-36, at the end of the third period.
Both teams were scoreless in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Lee broke through for the Wildcats and helped narrow the deficit to 11, 55-44, with 3:29 remaining. Oklahoma State scored four consecutive points to hold back the comeback.
Mack and Asberry led Oklahoma State with 24 points and 18, respectively. Mack hauled in a game-high 17 rebounds.
The Wildcats finished the afternoon shooting 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from the field including a 1-of-14 performance from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) and held a 46-31 advantage on the boards.
K-State will conclude its two-game road trip in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, February 21, at 2 p.m., against Texas. Sunday's game will be available on Longhorn Network and will air on the K-State Sports Network and for free at kstatesports.com.
