Cooper Schroeder - Big 12 Indoor Championships

New School Record Emphasizes K-State at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa. – Junior Cooper Schroeder ran his way to a new school record on an oversized track to highlight action on the first day of the Iowa State Classic on Friday (February 11) at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
 
A native of Manhattan, Schroeder came in with a time of 13:55.58 and was the overall winner in the men's 5,000-meter run. Also competing in the event was junior Kerby Depenbusch, who came in 10th place with a time of 14:15.26, earning a new indoor personal-best.
 
"We had some really fine performances, good competitive efforts and personal-bests," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "It was a solid day here in Ames. Tomorrow we have 800s, 400s and 4x400s, as well as shot put, high jump and women's pole vault. Looking for good things tomorrow."
 
Leading the way for K-State in the women's weight throw was junior Emma Robbins, who finished in second place with a throw of 20.47m/67-2. Finishing in sixth was sophomore Jasmine Greer (18.91m/62-0.50), eighth place was sophomore Emily Fuhr (18.60m/61-0.25) and concluding the event in 14th was sophomore Lacey Pavlak with a personal-best heave (17.29m/56-8.75)
 
Earning third place in the women's high jump was junior Madeline Righter. Righter leaped to a height of 1.66m/5-5.25, while junior Urte Bacianskaite jumped to a height of 1.66m/5-5.25, claiming sixth place. Freshman Madelyn McCabe rounded out the Wildcats in ninth place, recording a mark of 1.61m/5-3.25.
 
Jumping to a personal-best mark of 5.75m/18-10.50 and earning fifth in the women's long jump was Bacianskaite. Close behind in ninth was McCabe with a mark of 5.46m/17-11, tying her personal-best that was achieved at the Kansas State Winter Invitational on December 11, 2021.
 
Claiming third place with a personal-best time of 21.50 in the men's 200-meter was junior Tim Lambert Jr. Lambert's time ranks him fourth in program history for the men's 200-meter on an oversized track. Freshman Prithviraj Chougule also ran a personal-best time of 22.91 and finished the event in 22nd.
 
Running a time of 8.25 in the men's 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, junior Donovan Turner clinched fourth place, earning him a spot in the finals. Freshman Emil Uhlin came in 12th with a time of 8.56.
 
In the men's 60-meter hurdle finals, Turner came in fifth place and recorded a time of 8.17.
 
Sophomore Kade McCall competed in the men's weight throw and had a heave of 19.92m/65-4.25 and finished fifth. McCall's throw was only 0.06 meters off his personal best 19.98m/65-6.75.
 
Junior Jaybe Shufelberger ran in heat one of the women's 5,000-meter run. The Topeka, Kansas native clocked in at 17:21.11 and finished 29th overall.
 
Rounding out the first day for K-State at the Iowa State Classic was the women's 3,000-meter run. Junior Cailan Steward took home 34th with a time of 10:25.90 while in the men's division, senior Stephen Kielhofner came in 34th (8:25.90) and freshman Thomas Hazen was in 38th (8:27.90)
 
At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, freshman Velecia Williams led the way in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.04m/19-9.75, claiming fifth place and clinching a new personal-best. Fifth-year senior Wurrie Njadoe finished in 14th with a leap of 5.84m/19-2. Leading in the women's long jump invitational section with a leap of 6.31m/20-8.50 was fifth-year senior Taishia Pryce.
 
Competition will continue in Ames on Saturday (February 12) with the men's triple jump and women's 60-meter dash at 12 p.m., CT. In Fayetteville, the Wildcats will compete at 1:30 p.m., CT with Njadoe running in the women's 200-meter at 2 p.m., CT. Pryce and Williams will compete in the women's triple jump at 12 p.m.
