Various Top Finishes Close Out Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa. – The Kansas State track and field team finished out the second day of competition at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday (February 12) with four first place finishes.
"We had some good performances," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "Personal-bests are obviously a good thing, and we had a number of those. (Antonio) Hanson and (Shalysa) Wray ran their first open 400s and both came back and ran well on the 4x400. Kassidy (Johnson) looked very strong as well. This is important because that is what we have to do at the conference meet."
Starting off the day in first place for the women's pole vault was senior Tommi Hintnaus. The Arizona State transfer matched her personal-best height of 4.15m/13-7.25 and moves to second in program history.
Leading the pack for the Wildcats was junior Kassidy Johnson, who finished the women's 800-meter run in first place with a time of 2:05.75. Following Johnson was junior Sydney Burton (14th, 2:10.25), fifth-year senior Macy Heinz (17th, 2:10.99), senior Alex Ferguson (19th, 2:11.20) and junior Delaney Kemp (33rd, 2:16.80).
Junior O'Shalia Johnson clinched first place in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 24.07. Right behind Johnson was junior Shalysa Wray in second place, recording a time of 54.47.
In the men's high jump, junior Devon Richardson reached a height of 2.14m/7-0.25, claiming the first-place spot. Fifth-year senior Kyle Alcine was close behind Richardson in second place with a mark of 2.09m/6-10.25. Fourth place went to freshman Kamyren Garrett (2.04m/6-8.25) and freshman Emil Uhlin earned fifth with a personal-best height of 2.04m/6-8.25.
The Kansas State A 4x400-meter relay squad, comprised of Johnson, Wray, Ferguson and Heinz, clocked in at 3:44.26 and came in second place. In 10th place was the B squad, made up of junior Urte Bacianskaite, freshman Madelyn McCabe, senior Lavaun Stephenson and junior Maddie Righter, with a time of 4:02.94
Finishing with a time of 3:09.09 and claiming second place was the Kansas State A team in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The squad consisted of junior Sean Wilson, sophomore Kyle Gale, junior Tim Lambert Jr. and freshman Antonio Hanson. In ninth place was the Kansas State B team with a time of 3:27.53.
Third place in the women's shot put went to sophomore Jasmine Greer with a heave of 15.35m/50-4.50. Sophomore Grace Thompson came in 12th place with a throw of 13.76m/45-1.75, and rounding out for the Wildcats was sophomore Jaycee Schroeder with a mark of 13.17m/43-2.50.
Representing K-State in the men's 400-meter dash was Hanson, as the Jamaica native clocked in a time of 48.33, placing sixth overall.
Leading the way in the men's 60-meter dash was freshman newcomer Prithviraj Chougule in 13th place by recording a time of 7.07, while junior Nathan Hassed claimed 16th with a time of 7.10.
In the women's mile run, junior Hannah Stewart ran to a time of 4:52.61 and placed 14th, while junior Mike Rohlinger competed in the men's mile run, claiming 15th with a time of 4:08.84.
All three competitors in the men's 800-meter run earned personal-best times. Sophomore Will Carroll finished in 18th (1:52.44), junior Kyle Johnston was in 21st (1:53.16) and sophomore Jack Vincent rounded out for K-State in 26th (1:53.70).
In addition to the Iowa State Classic, four Wildcats competed in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Leading the way was freshman Kavian Kerr, who made his mark in the men's 200-meter dash and clinched ninth place with a personal-best time of 21.29.
Jumping to a mark of 12.83m/42-1.25 in the women's triple jump was fifth-year senior Taishia Pryce, coming in eighth place. In 14th place was freshman Velecia Williams with a leap of 12.26m/40-2.75.
In the women's 200-meter dash, Wurrie Njadoe finished in 14th with a time of 23.72.
K-State will stay at home next week for the Steve Miller Invitational at the Ahearn Field House on Friday (February 18). Competition will begin at 3 p.m. CT with the women's weight throw.
