K-State Rowing Begins 2022 Season in Norman, Oklahoma

Mar 04, 2022 | Rowing

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's rowing team will head to Norman, Oklahoma to kick off the 2022 spring season at the OU Scrimmage on Saturday (March 5). This is the seventh consecutive year that the Wildcats will compete at the scrimmage.

"We are looking forward to getting back on the water as we travel to Oklahoma to scrimmage," stated head coach Patrick Sweeney. "Our focus is preparing for the rest of the season as we continue to look at combinations and use the workout to focus on different race points. Each of the pieces this weekend will be used as experience to build from."

The team is coming off a tough winter camp in Waco, Texas that took place on January 4. Winter camp was the first of two training camps for the Wildcats. In Manhattan, the team has continued to push through pre-season training focused on intensity and increasing fitness.

K-State competed at the OU Scrimmage last season on March 13 where the Wildcats had a successful run-through.

The squad powered through two training sessions, with the first training focused on speed work and sharpening. The second session was highlighted by low rate, high power work. This year will follow a similar format with multiple outings focused on maximizing water time.

The team was most recently in action at the Jayhawk Jamboree, the sole competition of the fall season. K-State had an impressive gold medal performance in the Novice 4+ race.

Boat A consisting of freshman coxswain Paige Fox, freshmen Neva Roenne, Emily Stark, Anna Ryan and Kendra Hamman came in with a time of 21:17.294, almost 25 seconds faster than Iowa's Boat A.

Following the OU Scrimmage, the Wildcats will move to Sacramento, California for their spring camp with the Hornet Invitational to round out the trip on March 19-20.
