Johnson Leads Distance Team at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Kansas State track and field distance squad competed at the Drake Relays at the Drake Stadium on Thursday (April 28) with junior Kassidy Johnson placing first in the 800-meter run.
 
"The team competed well," stated assistant coach Ryun Godfrey. "Hadley Splechter and Noah Stevenson both achieved top ten all-time marks. The women's 800-meter went 1-4 in their section and finished 1, 2, 3 and 5."
 
Johnson completed the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.39 followed by fifth year senior Macy Heinz in second with a time of 2:07.65 and senior Alex Ferguson in third, clocking in at 2:08.10. Rounding out for the Wildcats was junior Sydney Burton in fifth (2:10.24).
 
With a time of 3:44.46, junior Hadley Splechter finished the men's 1,500-meter run in third place. His time puts him seventh in program history. Close behind in sixth place was fifth year senior Noah Stevenson, finishing in 3:44.96 which puts him seventh in program history. Both Splechter and Stevenson had personal best times.
 
Fifth year senior Travis Hodge competed in the men's 800-meter run and finished in 18th, recording a time of 1:55.15.
 
Competing in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase was freshman Thomas Hazen. The Overland Park, Kansas native finished the race with a time of 9:28.63 and finished 33rd.
 
K-State will kick off Friday (April 29) at 10:42 a.m. with the women's 4x1600-meter relay in Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Relays. The throws team will join the Wildcats and start competition at 11 a.m. with the women's javelin throw.
