The singles qualifying round will start at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team will take a short trip to Lawrence, Kan., on Thursday (Oct. 12) for the ITA Central Regionals at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, hosted by Kansas.
Qualifying matches begin at 9 a.m., CT with two rounds of singles matches and a round of doubles. Four Wildcats will compete in singles qualifying—freshmen Jillian Harkin, Charlotte Keitel, Tereza Polakova and sophomore Maria Santos.
Harkin and Keitel will also compete in the doubles qualifying round.
"Happy to be back in competition again after a few weeks back at home," head coach Jordan Smith said. "I think we've made some progress based off our last event in Charlotte."
Other schools competing in the Central Region include some spring dual familiars Iowa, Kansas City, South Dakota, Tulsa and Wichita State along with Big 12 members Iowa State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
"This week we're doing an individual format instead of the team format we had last month," Smith said. "With it being a big event in terms of participation and qualifier for the Fall National Championships. I'm excited to see how well our group competes against various programs of national and regional caliber."
K-State previously sent two women—senior Manami Ukita and sophomore Vanesa Suarez-- to compete in doubles competition at the ITA All-Americans in Cary, N.C., on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, where the pair was 1-1 on the weekend.
The team last competed at the Charlotte Invitational last month in Charlotte, N.C., where the Wildcats accumulated a 9-14 singles record, 3-6 in doubles, to start the fall season—including junior Veronika Kulhava who went undefeated, 3-0.
