Kielhofner and Meyer Win Men’s, Women’s 1,500 Meters

Meet continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior Stephen Kielhofner and freshman Grace Meyer highlighted the K-State men's and women's track and field performances at the Michael Johnson Invitational by winning both the men's and women's 1,500 meters on Friday (April 21) at the Clyde Hart Stadium in Waco, Texas.
Kielhofner finished with a time of 3:45.77, while Meyer ran a new personal best with a time of 4:32.81, seven seconds faster than her previous time she set at the Emporia State Relays (March 24-25) to start the outdoor season.
Eight more Wildcats finished in the top-10, along with multiple new personal bests.
Freshman Claire Bybee finished ninth in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.87m/12-8.25. Juniors Shalom Olotu and Urte Bacianskaite placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in the women's long jump with Olotu recording a jump of 6.14m/20-1.75, while Bacianskaite recorded a leap of 6.00m/19-8.25. Junior Nicolas-Jean Moulin finished 10th in the men's 400 meter hurdles in 53.40 seconds.
Four 'Cats ran personal bests in the 200 meter dash, junior O'Shalia Johnson in 24.11 seconds, along with all three men who competed, junior Kyle Gale at 21.25, beating his previous time set last April, sophomore Darian Clarke right behind him at 21.26, his previous time set in 2021 at the K-State hosted Ward Haylett Invitational and Prithviraj Chougule in 22.43 seconds.
Seven other distance runners competed in the 1,500 meters, freshman Cecilia Fisher finished fifth in her first attempt in the event with a time of 4:35.91, junior Cailan Steward running a new personal best in 4:42.38. Junior Hadley Splechter took third place in the men's with a time of 3:47.69, fellow junior Mike Rohlinger running a new best in 3:49.86, an eighth place finish. Sophomores Alex Gutierrez and Matthew Hauser finished one-one hundredth of a second apart, both a new personal best, Gutierrez in 3:51.72, and Hauser in 3:51.73, nine seconds better than his previous. Sophomore Tommy Hazen rounded out the pack in 3:57.62, also nine seconds faster than his best set last April.
Freshman Katie Schwartzkopf was the lone Wildcat to run in the women's 5,000 meters, also running a new personal best at 17:31.50.
The meet continues tomorrow (April 22) with the women's javelin throw beginning at 11 a.m., CT, the track events following at 12 p.m. with the women's preliminary 100 meter hurdles.
