SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Emma Robbins claimed a spot in the NCAA Championships with a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw on day two of the NCAA West Preliminary on Thursday (May 25), highlighting the day for the K-State track and field teams at Hornet Stadium.
In her first round throw, Robbins recorded a new personal-best at 68.18m/223-8, which ranks No. 2 in the K-State women's record books. The mark was 3 feet better than her previous best of 67.17m/220-4 that she set at the 2021 SEC Championships while competing at LSU.
"Emma has been knocking on the door of a 68 meter throw for a few weeks now," assistant coach Greg Watson said. "So, it was great to see her get that today on her first throw and move on to Austin."
Sophomore Monique Hardy also competed in the women's hammer throw, with a distance of 60.30m/197-10, finishing 22nd. The last thrower to compete for the day was sophomore Grace Thompson in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.36m/47-1.5, in 44th place.
Junior Shalom Olotu participated in the women's long jump, finishing right outside the top-12 qualifiers with a wind-aided jump of 6.12m/20-1 in 13th place. She will compete in her second event, the triple jump, on Saturday (May 27).

She finished 40th in the long jump with a mark of 5.79m/19-0 (+0.6), while placed 45th in the javelin with a distance of 41.49m/136-1. Bacianskaite automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's heptathlon.
Senior Shalysa Wray ran in the first round of the 200 meter dash in 23.94 (+1.7), finishing 40th. She will run in the women's 4x400 meter relay on Saturday.
