Hardy Sets Weight Throw School and Meet Record, 12 More Wildcats Winners

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The K-State track and field team competed in the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on Friday (Jan. 12), highlighted by junior Monique Hardy in the women's weight throw, breaking both the K-State school and Triangular meet record at Anschutz Pavilion hosted by Kansas.
Hardy's third throw landed at 22.13m/72-7.25, eight inches further than her previous best of 21.93m/71-11.5, during her time at LSU. She surpasses Janee' Kassanavoid's previous school record set at 21.81m/71-6.75 in 2017 and the meet record in 2016 by Daina Levy from Kansas at 21.35m/70-00.50.
Kansas won the team meet after 31 events with 245.5 points, while K-State finished in second place with 228 points, Wichita State landing in third place with 190.5 points.
The Wildcats claimed 12 first place finishes, seven of them coming from field events, including a sweep of the men's and women's high jump.
Sophomores Aaron Antoine and Sharie Enoe both recorded new personal bests in the high jump, Antoine cleared a height of 2.19m/7-2.25, two inches more than his previous best. Enoe launched herself to no. 4 in the K-State all-time records with a jump of 1.88m/6-2, almost two inches better than her best during her time at New Mexico Highlands.
Other field event winners included seniors Shalom Olotu in the long jump (5.84m/19-2), Kade McCall with a new personal best in the weight throw (21.34m/70-0.25), Jaycee Schroeder in the shot put (15.52m/50-11) and Devon Richardson in the triple jump (14.94m/49-0.25).
On the track, senior Shalysa Wray won both her events, the 60 meter dash (7.52) and the 200 meters (24.67). Junior Darian Clarke claimed a 60 meter dash (6.83) win for himself in a new personal best. Other first place times came from seniors Hannah Stewart in the mile (4:53.70) and Kyle Gale in the 600 yards (1:09.85).
Notable top-three finishes on the track came from both distance runners and sprinters. In their first track meet, freshmen Josphine Wanjiku (2nd; 4:54.68) and Paige Baker (2nd; 2:22.54) competed in the mile and 800 meters, respectively. Senior Sydney Burton ran in the 1000 meters (2nd; 2:55.94), just .03 seconds behind Kansas' Aaliyah Moore. In the sprints were sophomores Jourdin Edwards in the 60 meter hurdles (2nd; 8.58), Twaneise Johnson in the 400 meters (2nd; 56.97) and freshman Nen Matlock in the 600 yards (3rd; 1:12.91).
K-State also saw improvements from senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams in the weight throw (3rd; 18.05m/59-2.75), sophomore Delaney Wright in the 600 yards (5th; 1:25.38) and junior Alex Gutierrez in the mile (3rd; 4:13.86).
More Wildcats competed in their first meet-- including transfers, sophomore Nate Collier (3rd; 15.08m/49-5.75) in the shot put, senior Eugene Omalla (2nd; 48.07) and freshmen Tavon Underwood (3rd; 48.44) in the 400 meters. As well as freshman Isaac Ativie in both the long jump (6th; 6.65m/21-10) and 60 meter dash (3rd; 6.95) and freshman Mikah Scott in the 60 meter dash (4th; 7.78) and 200 meters (5th; 25.58).
K-State will compete next Saturday (Jan. 20) at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas at the Sports Performance Center.
