Wildcats Continue Season with Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational

The Wildcats will race in three different division, the teams first time back to South Bend since 2019

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the first of three races in the month of October on Friday (October 3) at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., at Burke Golf Course.
 
The majority of the women's team will compete in the Blue Division 5k starting at 8:50 a.m., CT. The men's team will race in the Gold Division 8k at 11:30 a.m., CT. Some additional women's runners will participate in the women's Open Division at 10:10 a.m., CT.
 
The women's team in the Blue Division will compete against USTFCCCA nationally ranked #10 Notre Dame, as well as face fellow Big 12 Conference member Cincinnati. The Wildcats will get the first taste of Midwest region competition as Bradley, Illinois and Iowa will also be racing in the Blue Division.
 
This race could be the first of the season for three women, sophomore Stella Miner, junior Vienna Lahner, in her first season on the cross country team, and senior Alexa Rios.
 
To kick off the first race on September 5 in the Platte River Rumble Gold the women's team won the race with just 34 points. Senior Cecilia Fisher finished runner-up in the 5k race with a personal best time of 17:21.52, the no. 21 time in the K-State all-time records. Fellow senior Grace Meyer (3rd; 17:29.40) and sophomore Christine Jerono (5th; 17:31.45) also had their best personal races by more than 30 seconds.
 
The men's team finished in 3rd place with 79 points led by sophomores Jackson Esquibel (9th; 18:07.45) and Brock Olsen (10th; 18:11.60). With the team featuring five freshmen, Dylan Plath (16th; 18:24.02) and Logan Beckman (21st; 18:28.23) finished in the top-25.
 
This will be the first trip back to South Bend for K-State since the 2019 season. That season both the men and women competed in the Gold Division, the men finishing in 3rd place, the women in 19th.
