K-State Ends Home Slate Against Kentucky

This will be the second match up between the two teams
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team caps off a three match home stretch on Sunday (Feb. 9) against the Kentucky Wildcats at 10 a.m., at Body First Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (2-1) have previously competed against Kentucky (5-1) just one other time, during the 2018 postseason. That season, K-State was ranked no. 42 facing a no. 26 ranked UK team in the NCAA Championship first round, where the Cats advanced with a 4-3 win in Evanston, Ill.

During that match in 2018, now assistant coach Maria Linares, was the All-Big 12 Freshman of the Year for the Wildcats, clinching the win in the no. 2 spot with a dominating three set victory over Justina Mikulskyte, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 7-6 (8-6).

In the last match against Wichita State on February 1, the Cats suffered their first loss of the season in a 6-1 slip to the Shockers. Doubles pair of junior Sana Garakani and sophomore Tereza Polakova claimed the lone doubles win at 6-4 over Sati Aubakirova and Anne Knuettel.

Garakani also claimed the only singles win in an 8-game pro set win over Clara Whitaker in the no. 6 spot, 8-4.

In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released on February 5, K-State was still featured with two doubles pairs. At no. 70 is senior Veronika Kulhava and Polakova while sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav and junior Maria Santos sit at no. 81.
