K-State Drops Match Against Kentucky to End Home Stretch

The two Wildcats teams are now 1-1 in series history
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team ended a three-match home stretch on Sunday (Feb. 9) losing to Kentucky, 4-0. The teams are now 1-1 in series history.

Kentucky (6-2) clinched in doubles play and the first three singles matches with K-State (2-2) unable to gain its footing.
Â
Sophomores Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel were a dominant pair in the no. 2 spot, defeating Tess Bucher and Zoe Hammond 6-4, but the Wildcats could not secure the doubles point.

Senior Veronika Kulhava and junior Maria Santos fell short 2-6 in the no. 1 position against Ellie Eades and Elizabeth Stevens. In the deciding doubles match in the no. 3 spot, junior Sana Garakani and sophomore Tereza Polakova could not overcome the deficit, losing 6-3 to Asuncion Jadue and Julia Zhu.

Keitel was the only Wildcat to battle into three sets, overcoming a first set loss and winning the second 6-3 against Hammond, in the no. 1 position. Going into the third set she could not keep her momentum losing 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

Chogsomjav fell short in the no. 2 spot, 3-6, 4-6, to Stevens. Santos also lost in straight sets, 4-6, 3-6, to Zhu in the no. 3 position.

In the no. 4 spot, Polakova claimed the first set against Eades, 6-2, before the match went unfinished 1-0 in the next set.

With the match clinched for Kentucky, Kulhava and Garakani were unable to start their matches in the no. 5 and 6 positions.

K-State will hit the road for the first time in dual action on Friday (Feb. 15) to face Auburn (9-1) in Auburn, Ala.
