High Jump Performances Highlight the Wildcats in Bob Timmons Challenge

The Wildcats claimed the win in both the men's and women's event, with three new bests

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The K-State track and field team recorded multiple first place finishes and personal bests during the Bob Timmons Challenge on Saturday (Dec. 2) at Anschutz Pavilion in Lawrence, Kan.
 
Three Wildcats—junior Marcus Gelpi, senior Devon Richardson and sophomore Aaron Antoine—all achieved new personal best in the men's high jump. Gelpi and Richardson claimed the top-2 spots, both clearing a height of 2.18m/7-1.75. Antoine finished fourth with a height of 2.14m/7-0.25.
 
In the women's high jump, New Mexico Highlands sophomore transfer Sharie Enoe claimed the win by clearing a height of 1.83m/6-0, just shy of a new personal best and a spot in the K-State all-time top-10. Fellow sophomore Lindsey DeWitt recorded a new best with a fourth place height of 1.68m/5-6.
 
The women's weight throw had some strong performances, junior Monique Hardy claiming the win with a distance of 21.48m/70-5.75. Senior Emma Robbins came in at second place with a new personal best throw of 21.20m/69-6.75. Two more women-- senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams (5th; 17.06m/55-11.75) and sophomore Tamaiah Koonce (6th; 16.82m/55-2.25) also recorded new bests, Koonce 10 feet further than her previous.
 
Continuing the success in women's throwing, junior Grace Thompson won the women's shot put 15.76m/51-8.50. Two more Wildcats landed in the top-5, senior Jaycee Schroeder (3rd; 15.30m/50-2.50) and Houston junior transfer Daisy Monie (5th; 14.95m/49-0.75).
 
Senior Jasmine Greer was the only woman to compete in two throwing events, in the weight throw (4th; 17.48m/57-4.25) and ending the day in the shot put (6th; 14.47m/47-5.75). Three more seniors gave some more top performances, including Jessica Caraway (1st; 3:04.34) in the 1000 meters, Kade McCall (2nd; 21.07m/69-1.50) in the men's weight throw and Shalom Olotu in the women's long jump (2nd; 5.59m/18-4.25).
 
Two transfers—sophomore Jourdin Edwards (Louisville) and junior Vanessa Mercera (Cloud County)—ran the fastest times for K-State in the 60-meter hurdles. Edwards (3rd; 8.70 seconds) finished top-three, Mercera (6th; 8.90) not too far behind. Also in the hurdles, junior Ludivine Aubert (9th; 9.00) competed in her first indoor meet, sophomore Delaney Wright (10th; 9.11) with a new personal best.
 
In the 4x400 relays, both the men's and women's teams claimed a win. For the men, freshmen Nen Matlock, Ian Ludlam, junior Darian Clarke and senior Kyle Gale ran a time of 3:15.16. The women, consisting of sophomore Twaneise Johnson, Mercera, senior Shalysa Wray and Edwards came in at 3:49.04.
 
K-State will return to competition in the new year, starting 2024 off with the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on Saturday, Jan. 12 back in Lawrence, Kan. at Anschutz Pavilion.
