ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Sitting 10 strokes off the lead after the opening round, the 25th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team roared back to take the team championship at The Johnnie-O thanks to an impressive final round on Tuesday morning at the par-70, 7,005-yard Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course.

Additionally, senior Tim Tillmanns capped off his wire-to-wire individual championship, the first of his collegiate career.

The Wildcats carded a 2-under par 278 on Tuesday to finish the event at 1-under par 839, seven strokes ahead of a tie for second place between No. 30 Cincinnati and No. 37 Ohio State, the latter being the 36-hole leader. After posting the best team score of the second round on Monday afternoon, the Wildcats also led the field on Tuesday as they were the only squad to go under par in the final round.

"That was a big-time win for us," head coach Grant Robbins said. "I'm really proud of how the guys just stayed with the process and showed tremendous toughness and grit down the stretch. To come back like we did after the first round and play like that in difficult conditions is a tremendous accomplishment." K-State defeated five other teams that were ranked in the Golfstat Top 50 during The Johnnie-O. With the victory, the Wildcats earned their fourth championship of the season, tied for the second most in school history.

A native of Cologne, Germany, Tillmanns posted red scores in all three rounds, including a bogey-free round of 4-under par 66 on Tuesday to win the event by five shots. Tillmanns led the field in total birdies with 16 and par-4 scoring at 7-under par, the latter being five shots better than the next best player.

Tillmanns recorded the second individual title by a Wildcat this season as Cooper Schultz won the Wildcat Invitational in September.

"I can't say enough about Tim," Robbins said. "He works incredibly hard and has been close a few times, but to see him play a flawless round like he did today with the lead was amazing. I'm just incredibly proud of him and the entire team." Senior Will Hopkins used a 2-under par 68 final round - highlighted by an eagle on No. 15 - to jump 13 spots on the leaderboard and into the top 10 as he tied for sixth place at even-par 210. It was the fourth top-10 finish this season for the Lincolnshire, England native and 10th of his career.

The Wildcats also received a top-20 finish from Luke O'Neill, who tied for 18th place at 3-over par 213 thanks in part to a 1-over par 71 final round on Tuesday. It was his second top-20 finish this season and first since the Wildcat Invitational.

Cooper Schultz tied for 53rd place at 11-over par 221 after a 6-over par 76 during the final round. Two strokes behind him was Nicklaus Mason, who tied for 61st place after a final-round score of 3-over par 73.

Ben Stoller, who competed as an individual, tied for 77th place at 23-over par 233 following a 6-over par 76 round on Tuesday.

K-State will look to carry its momentum into next week as the Wildcats compete in the All-American Intercollegiate, Tuesday and Wednesday, at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
