K-State Welcomes South Dakota State Wednesday

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State continues its seven-game homestand with a midweek matchup against South Dakota State Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium.
 
The two squads meet Wednesday for game one of the two-game season series, as the Wildcats and Jackrabbits will meet again May 14 at Tointon Family Stadium.
 
The Wildcats (9-6, 2-1 Big 12) lead the all-times series 12-1 with the Jackrabbits (7-9, 0-0 Summit), dating back to 1981. K-State is 10-1 when facing SDSU at home and is 4-1 in the last five matchups that includes a three-game win streak under head coach Pete Hughes.
 
K-State will send right-hander James Guyette to the mound for his first collegiate start, going against right-handed sophomore Jack Kruger (0-0).
 
K-State's Jacob Frost and Jackson Wentworth teamed up for the ninth no-hitter in the program's 124-year history, and first combined no-hitter since 1991, as the Wildcats blanked Cincinnati 4-0 in Friday's Big 12 opener at Tointon Family Stadium. With the performance, Frost earned Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week honors, becoming the second Wildcat this season to earn a Conference weekly award alongside Brady Day.

K-State heads into week five action 9-6 overall, and 2-1 in Big 12 play after earning the programs first Big 12 opening series win since 2013 over Cincinnati (2-1) …  Lefty Jacob Frost was rewarded by the Big 12 Conference for his performance in the Cats' first combined no-hitter since 1991, earning Co-Newcomer of the Week accolades … K-State's offense is hitting .303 with five players averaging over .300 … Ten players have produced home runs this season, including seven with multiple led Brady Day with five … Day is leading the Wildcats in six offensive categories: batting average (.383), hits (23), home runs (5), RBI (23), slugging percentage (.717), on-base percentage (.507) …  Raphael Pelletier and Brendan Jones have each extended their on-base streaks to 15 this season … K-State will send right-hander James Guyette to the mound for his collegiate start … The freshman has made two appearances in relief this season, striking out five in five innings.
 
SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
SDSU comes to Manhattan with a 7-9 overall record, after dropping a four-game series (3-1) to Dayton over the weekend … The Jackrabbits are hitting .289 as a team, averaging seven runs a game on 10 hits … Offensively, SDSU is led by junior outfielder Cael Frost, who has produced a slash line o .388/.440/.806 with seven doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBI … SDSU's pitching staff boasts a 7.84 ERA with opponents hitting .298, while issuing 124 walks against 118 strikeouts … Sophomore Dylan Driessen has made a team-high eight appearances in relief with a 7.50 ERA (10 ER, 12 IP) … Right-handed sophomore Jack Kruger (0-0) will get Wednesday's start … The Belle Plaine, Minn., product has made four appearances this season with one start against New Mexico State (February 19).

Frost and Wentworth's no-hitter is also the 20th in Big 12 Conference history, and eighth combined ... It is also the first no-hitter for K-State in Big 12 play. 
 
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
K-State left-handed pitcher Jacob Frost, who combined with teammate Jackson Wentworth for the program's ninth no-hitter, was tabbed as the Big 12's Co-Newcomer of the Week, the Conference office announced Monday … Frost, a junior transfer from St. Louis, Mo., is the second Wildcat this season to earn a weekly Big 12 award, joining Brady Day, who garnered Player of the Week honors last week … The lefty retired 21 of the 25 batters he faced in 118 pitches and surrendered just two walks with four strikeouts … He logged a season-high seven inning to pick up his second victory of the season … With Frost on the mound, only three runners reached scoring position in the game. 
 
HOME. SWEET. HOME.
K-State is 57-2 when playing at home this season … At home, the Wildcat offense is slashing .328/.456/.575 with 41 extra base hits, including 20 home runs and 86 RBI ... K-State averages 10.4 runs a game on 12.1 hits when playing at Tointon Family Stadium while drawing 69 walks with 33 stolen bases... The Wildcat bullpen boasts a 5.40 ERA at home with opponents hitting .250 … The Cats have struck out 99 compared to 36 walks for a 2.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio ... Day's .421 average at Tointon leads the Cats this season, as the redshirt-junior has generated 16 hits with a team-leading 17 RBI …
