
Wildcats Begin Competition in NCAA Indoor Championship

Monique Hardy will kick off the Championship tomorrow in the weight throw
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams will compete with six athletes in the NCAA Indoor Championship on Thursday-Saturday (March 7-9) in Boston, Mass. at the Track at new balance. The meet will be streamed on the ESPN family of networks.
Each event consists of 16 athletes-- the relays with just 12 teams-- with the sprints first competing in a semifinal round to qualify for the final round on Saturday.
Starting on Thursday, junior Monique Hardy will compete in the women's weight throw at 7 p.m. CT. Hardy currently holds the women's weight throw school record at 22.13m/72-7.25. The leading woman in the event with a throw of 25.09m/82-3 is Jalani Davis from Ole Miss.
On Friday, senior Eugene Omalla will race in the 400 meter dash semifinal at 3:30 p.m. CT. He ran his personal best time and new school record at the Big 12 Championship in the preliminary race in an altitude converted 45.29 seconds. He holds the fourth fastest time in the NCAA, Georgia's Christopher Morales Williams leading with the fastest time so far at 44.49 seconds.
Sophomore Sharie Enoe will compete in the women's high jump at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday. Her personal best height of 1.88m/6-2 is no. 5 in the K-State all-time top-10. The tallest height cleared this season in the women's event is 2.00m/6-6.75, from Lamara Distin at Texas A&M.
On Saturday afternoon at 4:20 p.m. CT, the men's 4x400 relay will race. The team—E. Omalla, seniors Kyle Gale and Jaimie Omalla and freshman Tavon Underwood-- ran their school record fastest time in 3:04.84 at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Feb. 3. Arizona State holds the fastest relay time at 3:02.73, other Big 12 schools Texas, Texas Tech and BYU will also have teams competing.
