
K-State Back in Action for Big 12 Championship in Lubbock

Both days of competition will start at 10 a.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams are back in action, starting the post season with the Big 12 Championship on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28-March 1) in Lubbock, Texas, at the Sports Performance Center, hosted by Texas Tech. Both days of events will be streamed on ESPN+, with daily tickets at $9 or a two-day pack at $18.
Both days will start competition at 10 a.m. with the combined events, the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon. Friday begins with the heptathlon 60 meter dash and pentathlon 60 meter hurdles.
This is the third consecutive year the Red Raiders have hosted the indoor championship. Last season the men's team finished in 9th place with 34 points, the women's team in 10th with 33.5 points.
K-State has multiple Cats featured in the conference top-10 standings, primarily in the women's field events-- junior Sharie Enoe is no. 2 in the high jump with a qualifying mark of 1.88m (6' 2") for the NCAA Indoor Championship. Seniors Shalom Olotu (6.35m, 20' 10") and Tesia Thomas (6.32m, 20' 9") are no. 3 and 4 in the long jump, Olotu is also in the triple jump standings at no. 6 (13.29m, 43' 7 ¼"). Seniors Daisy Monie (16.56m, 54' 4") and Jaycee Schroeder (16.30m, 53' 5 ¾") are no. 5 and 6 in the shot put.
Reigning women's weight throw champion senior Monique Hardy is no. 4 with her seasons best of 20.11m (65' 11 ¾"). School record holder in the men's weight throw, Gary Moore Jr., is no. 2 at 22.36m (73' 4 ¼").
Freshmen Tommaso Franze and Vera Gerasimova look to compete in their first conference combined events. Franze is currently no. 9 in the Big 12 standings with a heptathlon score of 5,127 from the DeLoss Dodds Invitational (Feb. 1).
The Wildcats wrapped up the regular season at the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 14-15), with multiple top marks. The women's 4x400 relay team of junior Jourdin Edwards, freshman Ariana Jackson, and juniors Safhia Hinds and Delaney Wright finished 10th with the no. 4 fastest K-State time of 3:37.81. K-State ran a new men's 4x400 relay team with sophomores Cyrus Ways, Nen Matlock, senior James Ezeonu and sophomore Tyrique Lewis, with a time of 3:10.60, no. 8 in the indoor records.
Hinds also competed in the women's 400 meter invite in 54.09 seconds, no. 6 in the all-time records. Sophomore Pierson Carlisle cleared his best height in the men's pole vault with a 3rd place finish at 5.05m (16' 6 ¾").
