COLUMBIA, Mo. – Led by junior Alex Lindstrom, the Kansas State men's golf team tallied a fourth-place finish at the Tiger Intercollegiate following the conclusion of the second and third rounds on Tuesday the par-70, 7,158-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Wildcats carded a 54-hole score of 21-over par 861 on the difficult track that did not see any team finish under par. After second-round play was suspended on Monday night, K-State closed out the middle 18 holes on Tuesday morning by producing a score of 4-over par 284, and the Wildcats matched that figure in the final round.
Lindstrom finished the event at 4-over par 214 to tie for 13th place, the second-best showing of his career. He moved seven spots up the leaderboard in the final round thanks to a score of 1-under par 69, his best round of the season.
A native of Halsted, Sweden, Lindstrom produced his best finish outside of Manhattan as he placed second in his first event at K-State, the Wildcat Invitational in September 2023. His only other top-20 finish prior to this week was a tie for 20th place at this season's Wildcat Invitational.
Senior Ian McCrary and freshman Erik Sabelström Holmberg tied for 26th place at 7-over par 217. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Sabelström Holmberg moved up eight spots on the leaderboard during the final round with an even-par score. The duo finished one shot ahead of senior Cooper Schultz, who tied for 35th place following identical rounds of 1-over par 71 to finish out the tournament. Another senior, Nicklaus Mason, tied for 70th place at 15-over par 225.
Host-school Missouri took home the team title at even-par 840, eight shots ahead of Saint Mary's and 14 shots clear of third-place Nebraska. The Tigers also claimed the individual medalist in Mattias Varjun at 4-under par 206, the only player in the 99-man field to finish under par.
K-State is back in action next Monday and Tuesday as the Wildcats take part in the Mossy Oak Collegiate held at Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
