AS A SOPHOMORE (1999): Saw action in 28 matches and 102 games as a middle blocker with five starts... Ranked fifth in Big 12 Conference-only matches with a 1.29 blocks per game average, while she was 10th in league-only matches with a .304 hitting percentage... Led the team in block assists (110) and total blocks (121)... Finished fourth on the team in kills (179) and kills per game (1.75), while recording a .287 hitting percentage... Led or tied for the team lead in blocks in 13 matches... Recorded double-digit attacks in 22 matches, while posting a hitting percentage of .300 or above on 13 of those occasions... Tallied double-digit kills on four occasions... Turned in a season-best .667 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Iowa State on Sept. 29 with nine kills and seven blocks... Followed that performance with 13 kills on .478 hitting and five blocks in a 3-1 win at No. 21 Colorado on Oct. 2... Recorded her first career double-double (kills-blocks) in the dramatic 3-1 win over No. 14 Texas A&M on Oct. 16 in Ahearn Field House with 13 kills on .542 hitting (no errors on 24 attacks) with a career-best 11 blocks (one solo, 11 block assists)... Posted 15 kills on a .583 hitting percentage in a 3-2 loss at Texas Tech on Oct. 27 with five blocks... Earned 12 kills on a .421 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at Iowa State on Nov. 6... Garnered a career-best three solo blocks in the dramatic 3-2 victory at Kansas on Nov. 21.
AS A FRESHMAN (1998): Saw action in 21 matches as a outside hitter... Led the team with a .342 hitting percentage... Committed just four attack errors in 38 attempts... After a quiet first month of the season, she broke out against No. 17 Texas A&M on Oct. 3 with 10 kills and six digs... She also recorded a .444 hitting percentage against the Aggies... Earned a 1.000 hitting percentage against Iowa State, while registering four blocks and three digs on Oct. 9.
AT LEWISTON HIGH SCHOOL (1994-98): Letterwinner in volleyball all four years at Lewiston High School in Tecumseh, Neb. ... Led Lewiston to two Nebraska Class D-2 State Championships in 1995 and 1997... The team was also the runner-up in 1996... The Tigers were 91-9 during Christen's tenure... Two-time honorary captain... Named the Class D-2 Player of the Year by the Huskerland Prep Report as a senior... Three-time selection to the Class D-2 and Associated Press all-state first teams... Was named to the second team of Nebraska's Super State squad as a senior, comprised of players from all classes... Named to the third team of the Super State squad as a junior... Selected to the all-state tournament first teams three consecutive years... Three-time selection to the Homesteader All-Conference and Sunland All-Area first teams... Holds seven individual volleyball records at Lewiston, including kills in a season (361), kills in a career (987), solo blocks in one game (eight), solo blocks in a season (102) and solo blocks in a career (266)... Lettered in basketball, track and band all four years... Also involved in speech... Holds numerous individual basketball records including season field goal percentage (56 percent), total rebounds in a season (342) and most blocked shots in a season (66)... PERSONAL: Jayne Marie Christen was born Nov. 15, 1979, in Beatrice, Neb. ... The daughter of Joseph and Joan Christen... Youngest of three children... Has two brothers, Tony, 27, and Ben, 25... The tallest member of the team at 6-foot-4... She was the tallest college volleyball prospect in Nebraska when she came out of Lewiston (Neb.) High School in 1998... Cousin, Janelle Karas, played volleyball at Oklahoma... Greatest sports thrill was when Lewiston won the State D-2 Volleyball Championship on her 18th birthday... She posted a match-high 17 kills and recorded the final kill in that title victory... Is planning a major in secondary education with emphasis in biological science.
