K-State Opens Play at Seminole Intercollegiate on Saturday
Feb 23, 2018 | Men's Golf
The K-State men's golf team will take part in its first team tournament of the spring as they compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate, Saturday and Sunday, held at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Florida.
The field will open play with an 8 a.m. (ET) shotgun start on Saturday for the first 36 holes, leaving the final 18 holes to be played on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
The Wildcats will send five members of the team with Matthieu Caron, Jacob Eklund, Ben Fernandez, Jeremy Gandon and Kyle Vance set to compete at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
"We are excited about this weekend," said K-State head coach Grant Robbins, whose team played as individuals at South Alabama last week. "With the adverse weather conditions we have had back home and the travel difficulties we had getting here, I know the guys are eager to get out and compete.
"I expect the scoring to be pretty low here, so it is important we stay patient as there should be plenty of birdie opportunities."
K-State veterans Eklund, Gandon and Fernandez all placed in the top seven at the USA Individual Tournament. Fernandez recorded an even-par 213 to tie for fourth place, while Eklund and Gandon tied for seventh place at 2-over par 215.
Caron and Vance also competed in Mobile, Alabama, last week. Vance finished in 24th place at 14-over 227 and Caron finished in 25th place after recording a 15-over par 228. They both look to improve in the upcoming tournament.
In addition to the Wildcats, the Seminole Intercollegiate field includes Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois State, Jacksonville, James Madison, Nicholls State, Southern Illinois, Troy, West Virginia, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky and Winthrop.
