Apr 12, 2018 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off its best finish of the season earlier in the week, the K-State men's golf team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at the par-72, 7,239-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
The event was originally scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday, but due to weather concerns, the teams will play 18 holes on Friday with a 1:30 p.m., start, followed by 36 holes on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
K-State's lineup for the tournament will feature JC Campbell, Jacob Eklund, Jeremy Gandon, Ben Fernandez and Roland Massimino.
"We are looking forward to competing at Iowa this weekend," head coach Grant Robbins said. "It is a great golf course and a very well-run tournament, and I know our guys are excited to play. The weather looks like it could be very challenging, so it is important that we have a great attitude, be tough mentally and focus on the things we can control."
The Wildcats are using the same scoring lineup that competed in the Missouri Tiger Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. K-State recorded its best finish of the season at 14-under par 850 to take second place, notching its best placing since the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in October 2016. K-State's 54-hole score of 850 was its lowest since carding an 849 in the Denver Shootout in March 2016.
Led by Massimino and Gandon led the Wildcats at the Tiger Invitational as the duo tied for ninth place, carding a 3-under par 213. Campbell was one shot back, finishing in 14th place at 2-under par 214.
The Wildcats will be joined in Iowa by Arkansas State, DePaul, Drake, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Marquette, Minnesota, Michigan State, Nebraska, South Dakota State and UMKC.
