K-State Falls to (23) Texas on Thursday Night

AUSTIN, Texas - K-State held the highest scoring team in the Big 12 scoreless in the opening half, but 23rd-ranked Texas overwhelmed the Wildcats in a five-minute window in the second half to secure a 4-0 win on Thursday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. K-State is now 4-7-2 this season and 0-3-1 in the Big 12, while Texas improves to 9-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With its match on Thursday night, K-State has now played the three highest scoring teams in the Big 12 in three straight matches. The Longhorns entered Thursday night leading the Big 12 with 33 goals this season.
- For the ninth time this season, K-State held an opponent without a first half goal (4-3-2).
- Texas broke through in the second half, going in front 1-0. Cameron Brooks finished into the lower right corner in the 68th minute, as she was assisted by Jilly Shimkin and Trinity Byars.
- Four minutes later, the Longhorns added an insurance goal. Emily Jane Cox found the netting in the 72nd minute with an assist from Ashlyn Miller.
- Just seconds after the goal from Cox, Brooks notched her second of the night on an assist from Byars to make the match 3-0 in favor the Longhorns in the 73rd minute.
- In the 82nd minute, Texas added a fourth goal with Shimkin scoring on an assist by Byars.
- Texas held a 21-11 advantage in total shots including a 10-5 lead in shots on goal. The Longhorns tallied a 12-5 edge in total shots in the second half.

"I think the important thing to get now is just for us to stick together and regroup and focus on on the next game, put this one behind us. That was a good team. We competed well in the first half but we lost a little bit of focus in the second half and they punished us for it."
On playing the three highest scoring teams in the league in three straight matches...
"It will be something that we're going to continue to talk about with our team and build them back up and continue to grow from it. We get those three offensives behind us and now you gotta be ready to go on the road and do it again on Sunday, which is a major challenge. However, I feel if we can continue to do the things that we've been doing, hopefully, it'll all fall our way."
