K-State Sets School Record for Shutouts with Draw at UCF on Sunday

Oct 05, 2025 | Soccer

ORLANDO, Florida – Playing through a persistent rain for majority of the second half, K-State held strong and worked out a 0-0 draw at UCF on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. With the shutout, K-State has set the school record for shutouts in a season with its seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- K-State (5-4-3, 0-3-2 Big 12) recorded its 17th shutout half of the season, including its 11th first half not allowing a goal, as the Wildcats outshot the Knights in the first half, 8-5. The final 10 minutes of the opening half were played in a wind-driven downpour.
- The rain abated 20 minutes into the second half. The Wildcats owned possession for large segments of the second half and outshot UCF (8-2-2, 2-1-2 Big 12) in the final 45 minutes, 10-5.
- Senior goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing made three saves on Sunday to collect the shutout. With the shutout, Sibbing set the school records for shutouts in a season and shutouts by a sophomore goalkeeper with her seventh.
- The Wildcats finished the day with an 18-10 advantage in total shots, a 5-3 edge in shots on goal and a 9-5 lead in corner kicks. K-State's nine corner kicks tied for the second-most in a Big 12 match in program history, equaling the mark of nine at Iowa State on October 6, 2024 and trailing the school record of 11 set at Oklahoma State on October 20, 2017.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin

On a return to form by the team today…
"We were really pleased with the way the team showed up to compete today. Bouncing back from a tough match on Thursday night can be challenging and I thought the team responded incredibly well. Offensively, the team was intentional about keeping the ball and defensively, we pressed collectively and squeezed the space they had to play into. The energy and intensity was there and it was fun to watch."

On composure with possession…
"Absolutely. The group was really committed to keeping the ball today and making intentional decisions to play with each other and combine to get in behind. The in-possession phase of the game has been a big focal point for our team so it's very fun and exciting to see the pieces continue to come together."

On corner kick execution…
"We were happy to generate so many chances off of corner kicks today, but want to be more lethal and clinical in those moments to make sure the ball hits the back of the net. Overall, proud of the team for being committed to getting to the end line and earning set pieces."

On school record for shutouts in a season and by Maddie Sibbing…
"Breaking the school shutout record is a huge deal and it is absolutely a testament to our entire team believing and buying into our out of possession mentality and working hard to make it incredibly uncomfortable for other teams to have the ball. I am immensely proud of the team and how they have continued to show up, believe and lean into the process and take pride in keeping teams off the board."
