The women's team won the 5k with 24 points for the second year in a row, as senior Hannah Stewart took first with a time of 18:00.22, which ranks as the fastest K-State 5k time at Rim Rock Farm.
The men's team finished in third place in the 6k with 52 points, just four points behind second place Oral Roberts. Kansas won with 22 points for the second straight year.
Behind Stewart, four more women rounded out the top-10, in spots four through six, with senior Cailan Steward (4th; 18:30.84), sophomores Cecilia Fisher (5th; 18:31.76) and Grace Meyer (6th; 18:35.63) along with senior Aubry Donley (9th; 19:08.24). FROM THE HEAD COACH
Head Coach Randy Cole
On the men's team performance…
"They ran steady but probably still a few more gaps to close with KU and Oral Roberts. But we're fairly packed together as a team but there was a few gaps that was the difference between us getting second. Matt Hauser ran a solid race, the other guys had exchanged places, came in fairly close together but we just got some work to do to improve, we got a nice pack, we just got to continue to get more in race shape."
On the women's team performance…
"The ladies did a nice job we got a pretty tight pack, interchangeable parts. Cailan Steward kind of set the pace for the first half of the race, she held on really strong. Hannah Stewart had a real steady race, a really good second half, to win the race overall. A nice team win, a nice team pack but continue to raise their game as we move forward."
On the new faces running the course…
"I think pretty steady, Jessica Caraway, she was more of a middle distance runner, so this will help her with her overall fitness. Will Carroll is another middle distance runner, it will help him out too. Freshman Devin Chappel he's been training well, I think he could run it up with the other guys, just got to continue to mature, I think by the end of the season he'll be up there closer with the other guys. Same with Paige Baker, she's gonna improve with time."
