Cross Country Earns 17 Academic All-Big 12 Honors

10 Wildcats have now earned multiple consecutive All-Big 12 honors
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams announced 17 academic All-Big 12 accolades on Wednesday (Feb 14).

Seven men and 10 women earned the honor, including six women with a 4.00 GPA—seniors Sydney Burton, Jessica Caraway, Helen Giefer and Cailan Steward and sophomores Cecilia Fisher and Katie Schwartzkopf.

K-State is tied with Oklahoma State for the second most women with a 4.00 GPA, behind only UCF where all 10 women named to the list earned a 4.00 GPA or higher.

Four more women were named to the first-team, seniors Aubry Donley, Hannah Stewart, junior Kate Kowalik and sophomore Grace Meyer.

The men with first-team honors included seniors Kerby Depenbusch and Kyle Johnston and juniors Will Carroll, Matthew Hauser, Tommy Hazen and Jack Vincent.

Second-team nominations featured junior Alex Gutierrez.

First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
