Wildcats Travel to Fayetteville for NCAA West Preliminary

Competition will take place Wednesday through Saturday
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams are preparing for the four-day NCAA West Preliminary in Fayetteville, Ark., starting on Wednesday (May 22) at John McDonnell Field, hosted by Arkansas.

The West Preliminary runs from Wednesday (May 22) through Saturday (May 25), with all four days being streamed on ESPN+ at the start of the track events.

The top-12 athletes in each event, and 12 relay teams, from both the West and East Preliminary rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, set for June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The men are set for competition on Wednesday and Friday, the women on Thursday and Saturday.

Starting on the first day, senior Kade McCall will compete in the hammer throw at 10 a.m. CT. Fellow men's throwers, freshman Riley Marx and senior Joe Placek, will compete in the javelin throw at 2 p.m. In the 400 meter dash first round, seniors Kyle Gale and Eugene Omalla will race at 7:25 p.m.

On Thursday, junior Monique Hardy and senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams will compete in the hammer throw at 10 a.m. CT. Four women will face off in the shot put at 7 p.m.—juniors Daisy Monie and Grace Thompson and seniors Jasmine Greer and Jaycee Schroeder. On the track, sophomore Jourdin Edwards will run in the 400 meter hurdles first round at 8:20 p.m.

Multiple men will compete on Friday, starting the day with the discus throw at 1 p.m. CT, with sophomore Nate Collier and senior Andrew White. Not long after that the high jump will begin at 2 p.m., the Cats competing with three men— sophomore Aaron Antoine, junior Marcus Gelpi and senior Devon Richardson. Starting on the track is junior Tommy Hazen with the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. before Richardson competes in his second event of the day, the triple jump at 6 p.m. The men's 4x400 relay team, freshman Nen Matlock, Gale, E. Omalla and senior Jaimie Omalla, will race in the quarterfinal round at 8:45 p.m.

With a similar schedule to Friday, the last day of events on Saturday will kick off with sophomore Tamaiah Koonce and Monie in the discus throw at 1 p.m. CT, before sophomore Sharie Enoe and junior Vanessa Mercera take on the high jump at 2 p.m. Two more Wildcats will run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Cecilia Fisher and senior Hannah Stewart, at 5:40 p.m.
