Ali Hanif is in his first season as the Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach at Kansas State.
Hanif's responsibilities on staff include: goalkeeper training, aiding in the team defense and recruiting.
“We are ecstatic to be able to welcome Ali and his wife, Jamie, to Manhattan,” stated Corbin on the newest staff member. “Throughout the interview process, Ali was incredibly professional, thorough, and personable and I feel strongly that he will play a large role in helping us build a championship culture here within our program. He has incredible experience at the collegiate level, as well as becoming a respected presenter and educator on the national stage. Ali is energetic, motivated, competitive, and eager to learn while also being confident in his knowledge and skill set.
“As a goalkeeper coach, I believe that Ali is one of the best in the country and I look forward to the immediate, positive impact he will have with our players. The future of K-State soccer is bright and I am confident that Ali will continue to push our program forward and help lead our young women to growth and success.”
Prior to coming to K-State, Hanif served as assistant coach/goalkeeper coach at Arizona State for two seasons. He aided the squad to an 18-15-7 overall record during his two seasons in Tempe. He also served on the Arizona ODP staff and as a coach educator with the Arizona Soccer Association.
“I’m extremely excited to join the coaching staff at K-State,” said Hanif about his role on Corbin’s first staff. “Coach Colleen’s vision for the incredible potential the program has was such a huge draw to come back to the state. Her energy and attention to detail are going to power this program forward.
“A chance to come back to the state of Kansas is very important to our family, with my wife being from Olathe and myself having spent six years in Kansas City. I’m excited to begin working with the team and build up the goalkeeping group to being difference makers in games. K-State has all the tools to become a powerhouse program, building that with this incredible staff is an exciting adventure I’m looking forward to. My wife, Jamie, and I with our dogs Nynette and Mr Poe are very excited to make Manhattan home. We look forward to becoming a part of the community.”
During the 2023 season, Hanif played a role in the development of Sun Devil goalkeeper Pauline Nelles, who set the program record with nine shutouts, carding a 0.95 goals-against-average, the fewest goals conceded since 2007 (17), and Nelles earning All-Pac-12 Second Team honors.
Before his time in Tempe, Hanif was an assistant coach at Cal State Bakersfield during the 2022 season. He was named the Roadrunners' Interim Head Coach on May 11, 2023. He was also the Director of Goalkeeping at South Valley Surf Soccer Club for the 2022-2023 season.
Before his time in Bakersfield, Hanif coached at Illinois State following two seasons at MidAmerica Nazarene as an assistant coach overseeing the goalkeepers. He helped MNU reach the Heart of America Conference tournament in both seasons, including making the NAIA Tournament appearance for the second time in program history and winning 14 games during his first season.
Additionally, Hanif has served as the director of goalkeeping at Kansas City Athletics SC (ECNL) and the Kansas ODP as a goalkeeper coach from 2018-2021. Hanif helped numerous goalkeepers make college commitments over the years.
In 2017, Hanif joined the WPSL staff at GSI/KC Athletics Pride for two seasons, working with numerous goalkeepers who are now in the NWSL and abroad. He also spent time on staff with Tony Dicicco, at the SoccerPlus Goalkeeping school from 2014-2018.
Hanif began his coaching career in 2008 on staff with Manchester United F.C., working with various areas of the club. Before coming to the U.S., he held assistant and head coaching positions at Loreto College (Manchester, England) with the men's program (2012-18).
Hanif's career has spanned England and the United States over the last 16 years. Since 2008, he has coached professionally with Manchester United F.C. at the NCAA Division I and NAIA levels and in the Elite Clubs National League.
Hanif presented coach education at the United Soccer Coaches National Convention in January of 2025 (Chicago, Ill.) and January of 2024 (Anaheim, Calif.) and teaches goalkeeping coaching courses with United Soccer Coaches, Arizona Soccer Association, and United Goalkeeping Alliance.
Hanif holds his USSF B License, UEFA B Goalkeeping License, USSF C Goalkeeping License and United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Goalkeeping License, English F.A. and Scottish F.A. Goalkeeping Licenses.
A native of Manchester, England, Hanif attended Manchester Metropolitan University and earned a bachelor's degree in Coaching and Sports Development in 2015.
He resides in Manhattan with his wife, Jamie, and their two dogs, Nynette and Mr. Poe.
