K-State Leads Big 12 with 15 on Academic All-Big 12 Selections

MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State soccer placed a league-high 15 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams in an announcement by the league office on Thursday. The Wildcats also led the Big 12 with seven student-athletes with a GPA of 4.0.
In its first five seasons of action, Kansas State has now received 59 Academic All-Big 12 citations including 50 first team honors and nine second team recognitions.
K-State tallied 14 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team: senior Christina Baxter, sophomore Silke Bonnen, senior Grace Brennan, junior Emily Crain, senior Brookelynn Entz, senior Avery Green, redshirt freshman Cameron Illingworth, senior Shelby Lierz, sophomore Bailey Nemechek, senior Brooke Ramos, senior Maddie Souder, junior Maguire Sullivan, sophomore Caylee Thornhill and sophomore Shae Turner.
Bonnen, Entz, Illingworth, Lierz, Sullivan, Thornhill and Turner each were selected for the team with 4.0 grade point averages.
Entz, Green, Lierz and Souder garnered their third career honors. Baxter, Crain, Nemechek, Ramos and Sullivan earned their second career honors.
The Wildcats also placed sophomore Jenna Brown on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. This was the first career Academic All-Big 12 honor for Brown.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the women's soccer academic all-league team consisted of 116 first team members combined with 12 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
K-State capped its Big 12-only schedule with a record of 3-6-0. This marked the most wins in league play since the program started as a member of the Big 12 in 2017.
The Wildcats, winners of three of their final five matches, also clinched a seventh-place finish in the league standings which marked its highest finish in the league standings.
