
K-State Hosts Ward Haylett Invitational to End Regular Season

The Wildcats will compete at home one last time before starting the postseason
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams will wrap up the regular season hosting the Ward Haylett Invitational on Friday (May 8) at R.V. Christian Track. Admission is free and open to the public.
Events begin at 2:30 p.m. with the men's and women's hammer throw. At 5:00 p.m. the women's 4x100 relay will start track events. The senior class will be recognized after the conclusion of the meet at roughly 7:40 p.m.
Assistant coach and 2024 Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall is set to compete in the women's 100-meter hurdles at 5:15 p.m., while her husband and Paralympian Hunter Woodhall will race in the men's 400 meters at 5:46 p.m.
Other coaches and Olympians set to compete at the Wildcats home track are assistant coaches Steph Brokaw (800 meters) and James Milholen (400 meters) as well as Olympians Romaine Beckford (Jamaica; high jump), Akela Jones (Barbados; long jump), Wayne Pinnock (Jamaica; 100 meters), Brian Raats (South Africa; high jump) and Roje Stona (Jamaica; discus throw).
The Wildcats previously competed in the Drake Relays on April 23-25 in Des Moines, Iowa, collecting team scores after competing in five relays, the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley relay and distance medley relay, the men's team were named runners-up with 30 points, the women's team in 5th place with 15 points.
Two Cats won their races on the blue oval, senior Jourdin Edwards in the women's 400-meter hurdles in 58.15 seconds and junior Tavon Underwood in the men's 400 meters in 46.07 seconds.
Two women's relays recorded times now in the K-State all-time top-10, including the 4x400 relay in with a time of 3:32.77, the no. 3 fastest time in K-State history, with freshman Desirae Riehle, sophomore Ariana Jackson, freshman Anastasiia Kretova and senior Vanessa Mercera.
The DMR team ran a time of 11:28.69, the no. 5 fastest time in the K-State outdoor records with freshmen Emma Baum and Reese Brownlee, junior Angi Pondler and senior Grace Meyer.
Last weekend a small group of Cats competed in the Rock Chalk Classic (May 1-2) in Lawrence, Kan., highlighted by junior Daniela Wamokpego leaping to 13.77m (45' 2.25") in the triple jump, now the no. 2 best mark in the K-State women's outdoor records.
Next week K-State will start the postseason with the Big 12 Championship set for May 14-16 in Tucson, Ariz., hosted by Arizona at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
